All,

It has been forever since I have been able to fly on-line. My question to the assembled multitudes is this - Are there servers which allow what I will call "drop-in" air combat, OR is that even possible?
I will not, in the forseeable future, be able to join a squadron or anything like that. So, is it possible to fly and fight, a la Call of Duty, where you could drop into a game at anytime, providing there was room? I'm reasonably sure I'm dreaming here but it would be nice to know for sure. Thanks.

well not co-ops obviously

but yeah you pretty much can join any dogfight server that has no a password - providing you have the correct patch/modpacks for that server

Yeah, true. Although it's rare for there to be no open-to-all co-ops running on HL.

You must not be familar with Hyperlobby, its what most people use to connect to dogfight servers and hosted coop missions. Just click on one of the dogfight servers on the left side tab and you should be able to join up and play with up to and over 60 people online at once.

Here check out the nuggets thread and essentials for everything you need to know and get going in Il-2, be it online or offline:

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the replies. Appreciate the info. I suspected as much about the no password servers, but with my sucking life right now, I haven't been able to jump in. Will do know that I know about them. Also, understand about having the mods before hand.
Yes, stiletto, I am aware of HyperLobby. I am a member there - callsign ONeill. Have also been flying SP for several months now and have investigated all pertinate threads. Really like Mission 4 todays website.

Thanks all.

There are some very good servers that don't require mods and just need a standard 4.09m install with no fuss involved. Most dogfight servers are easy enough to just jump in and play for a bit and head out.

Do make sure to read the rules of whatever server you go into.
