what are these oi found em on the a6m5c and i dont now what there for and there also on a few other japanese planes but are they for grround or planes or what?

They are air to air weapons.

They are to be used against soft ground targets. That is what IL-2 Wingman says.

However I have also used them in air-2-air role as Fox_3 suggested against US heavies but with little success.

They were air to air weapons, incediary phosphorus, time fuze. Not very succsessful however.

They are useless against ground targets, but blow B17s up nicely if you hit.

Yes, they were intended for use against airborn targets. You can experiment with your Delay setting to get the desired results.

I've experimented with anti-aircraft rockets recently. Using the bomb rockets on late-war zero models is easy.

1. Set rocket convergence at 500 m, delay at 1.5 s.

2. Approach enemy bomber from 6 o' clock position, aim straight at the fuselage and fire when bomber is 500 ms away.

BTW bomb rockets are useless against bombers that do any evasive manoeuver.
