Trouble is that publishers tend to think that their installed customer base is completely moronic and should only be allowed to play games that are heavily simplified.

Simplification is a useful exercise when something is out of control...but when its a necessary component of the genre you need to back off and let it become more complex. That gives it the staying power it needs.

Ironically...I've found a console game that has simulation qualities. Forza Motorsport. You can change your car all around with different addons, engine modifications, you can tune the gear shifting, you can tune the tire pressure, you can have adjustable downforce on certain components, sway bars...the whole thing. Its actually really cool as these things have a noticeable and realistic impact on gameplay. For once a console game did not assume everyone to be moronic and let them have something more complicated.
