Welcome!

Glad you are having fun with FB and hope that you get as many years out of the series as myself and a lot of us have.

Don't let the some of the crap posted in the forums get you down, there is still a good precentage of people who come here for information and to share ideas, and many are always willing to lend a hand with whatever questions you have.

FB is a great game. It's got it's quirks, it's faults and it's downright BS, but nonetheless it's still a very playable and entertaining game.

Best advice I can give is to say it like it is, don't troll and stick to your guns. Works for me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Welcome Two_Hawks,
glad to see you are enjoying FB. I had a similiar experience when i upgraded from 400mhz machine to 3ghz. Good luck learning
to fly (i still cant). Then again, if you have already got 3-point landings down you could be a natural.

See ya round
Uberweng

ps.
I dont know much about computers but when i changed the graphics setting from quality to performance i got a 100% increase in framerate. (its embarassing but it took me almost a month to notice this option)

The octane rating of urine is seriously undermodelled in this sim! Don't do it again! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

On a more serious note - welcome to the game, I'm sure you won't ever regret it.
Cheers!

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Advanced display properties settings Geforce OpenGL Vertical sync off can almost double the frame rate, however this will cause tearing as the perspective is panned, then again you may never even notice the tearing.

Test all changes in the game. You can use the windows key to exit the game, make the changes and return to the game.

Some changes require reloading the IL2/FB program.

Color correction can be changed to help with target definition. After a series of tests my opinion is that the following adjustments help.

Digital vibrance turned up to 25% Low
Brightness up to 107%
Contrast up to 110%
Gamma at 1.00
Image sharpening up to approx 20%

Also:

Check CPU load with Ctrl Alt Del
Task Manager
Performance

If CPU Usage does not go to 0% then turn off the offending program.
Look under the Processes tab in the same Task Manager window, The program causing the unwanted CPU usage can be found by looking under the CPU column.

Keep windows up to date.

Get an ADSL hook up.

Minimize in game sound settings here:

C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\IL2setup

Check on-line connection quality and frame rates with minimum sound settings and note any loss in performance when increasing sound settings.

The proper sound settings are very important. Turn sound off and check frame rates to understand this condition.

In game frame rates can be checked during game sessions.

Press ` (tilde key) to open the text buffer.
Hold the shift key and type:
>
Type case sensitive:
fps START SHOW

Backspace and Esc to close the text buffer.

Consider finding servers with open voice communication channels and join them.

Don't be shy in the hyperlobby chat room, however it may be a good idea to put on another layer of skin.

If you haven't done so already you should DL the latest patch for the "out of the box" game.
