Hi, this does look like new news to me. It looks like a combination of Manchuria + 46, read the bit about [new maps and new planes].
It also mentions a detailed plane guide, for all the flyable planes.
If it is both add-ons, that would also explain the delay. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is the case.

Well, actually, this does seem to give some new info, for example, the title is "Sturmovik: 1946" or something, which suggests they have merged the two add-ons into one product. Also, there is the projected release of November 2006. But other than that not much else in there is new news.

From the article that is going to be the whole shebang from FB 1.0 all the way to 4.07. Not just the add ons.

Hi Chaps
Will this 1946 be a add-on as well as a standalone like pacific fighters was.
Or will we have to do a back up & re-install of this new version.
Also will just flights battle over europe work with it.

Cheers Pete

"STURMOVIK‚"ěĘ: 1946 also includes all of previous Il-2 series content..."

The new IL-10 Manchuria and IL-2: 1946 addons are basically patches 4.06 and 4.07 with a ton of new content. So they aren't like Pacific Fighters but more like conventional addon packages.

We're told that 4.06 and 4.07 will be released separately in an online download or you can get the full DVD version with everything from FB1.0 to 4.07 in one shot. Personally I think I'll spring for the DVD unless something comes up. At the moment its a multi-CD install for me to get back upto speed.

Mana from heaven. I wasn't looking forward to pay-to-download 3 addons.

Especially if there's a plane description with basic stats and supercharger settings and whatnot. It's long overdue.

IMO, the two BEST pieces of info in the announcement are:

1. "The price of the full-blown DVD is the same as the price of the two unreleased addons put together." I read that to say that all the pieces from 1.0 thru 4.05 are essentially "free" so that we don't have to pay for them again! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

2. "A Detailed Plane Guide, totalling over 450 pages of information, gives the low-down on every single one of your 229 flyable aircraft" Yea! No more "what plane does/has what?" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Luthier (the developer of the add-ons) posted at SimHQ forums:

* The add-ons WILL be sold separately as well, online only, in the same way as the Pe-2 add-on.

* The price of the full-blown DVD is the same as the price of the two unreleased addons put together.

* The DVD edition will contain 2 DVDs: one with the game, and one entire DVD with extras, including making-of videos, and exclusive BoB preview content.

* DVD will be in stores in mid-November.

* RRG Site's been updated with some more screenshots.

"Battle Over Europe" is simply some DGen campaigns and supporting skins. Actually, it was RRG's first venture into commerical add-ons and led to Pacific Fighters, Pe-2, Sturmoviks Over Manchuria, and 46.'

I can't foresee a reason why BOE wouldn't work with v4.07 -- BOE has been compatible with the series since before the Ace Expansion Pack. There might even be an official or unofficial update to BOE to use some of the new content, especially the ground items.

I'm not impressed at all.
Nowhere is thre a link to the original UBI announcement, nowhere does it say in so many words this will be a real DVD - did UBI in it's madness forget these were round shiny things with a hole in the center and not hours of waiting for a huge download which then leaves you with all kind of error messages when installing/running the game...

shinden1974
10-08-2006, 10:22 AM
Wow, excellent news!

If the news is true (and there's reason to doubt, UBI can do anything at this point) everyone SHOULD be happy...

We will have the boonty version for the boonty-doesn't-bug-me people (which can become non-boonty version with a little work)

the non-boonty DVD version for the no boonty people (wouldn't it be crazy if they shoved boonty in the DVD version?)

the rest of the add-ons which as of last year none of us were sure we were going to get outside of eastern europe

I'll be getting everything, the downloads, the DVD's and the stuffed WWII edition plush aircraft if they start selling them.

November or not - I'll wait till next year before I buy any of it. A DVD size (twice!) download through Boonty is out of the question for me, as is a CD/DVD that's invested with Starforce. What I would find acceptable is the 4.06m nd the 4.07m as downloads - preferably a direct patch without Boonty although Boonty doesn't bother me that much if they don't screw up the original executables.

Errr Boonty aside, who said the DVD will have Starforce? UBI announced some months ago they would no longer use Starforce in any of their software. After the all the controversy about SF and even Boonty, I really doubt they would go back to that system.

I would just remind everyone that if they do decide not to sell it retail in the states, its not because they don't like us, it's because they want to stay in business. The fact that there are at least a half dozen WWII arcade flying games on the shelves could turn a very expensive retail release into a disaster. Those of us who know what we want may have to go to a little more trouble to get it, but isn't that always the case?

Just a note for Canadian buyers that GOgamers.com does not ship to Canada....they did not last spring when I enquired about "Ost Front" anyway.

Therefore, if the new DVDs (ie. 1946 add-on & complete edition) won't get distributed through the retail software outlets, then you will have to perhaps get it from GOgamers.com and have it shipped to a US address, then go pick it up across the border.

Hello everyone! It's time for one of those questions. I have Il-2/FB/PF merged version 4.08 installed and update. I just downloaded Il-2 1946 from the ubi web site and its excellent. Now my question is..Do I remove the 'old' FB/PF from the computer? Does 1946 require the previous Il-2/FB/PFm to be installed to work properly? Do they work separately? Nervously hovering over the remove button..... just thought I would ask....

Crash_Moses
01-25-2008, 07:41 AM
They are totally separate. You don't need one to play the other. In fact, you can have multiple copies of each in different directories (some folks do this in order to run different patch versions e.g. 4.08 for playing on-line and 4.09 for playing off-line).

I think I had three versions at one time on mine. Now I'm down to just one. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Skycat_2

I'm sure that if you downloaded 1946 from UbiSoft North America that it is the full version and that it installed to its own unique directory just like the DVD version does.

There is an 'addons only' version download from UbiSoft France, however, that is an expansion for the FB+AEP+PF install. If this is what you got then you should only have one game directory at this moment...

Take a look at wherever on your computer the IL-2 games are installed. If there are two folders (ie, "IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles" and "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946") then you can uninstall/delete the Forgotten Battles version. Both have all the necessary files including the launch executable, bin files, mission files, skins, etc. -- you can confirm this with a quick 'side by side' comparison.

Out of curiousity, you posted that you have Forgotten Battles 4.08m and also just downloaded 1946 ... 1946 probably came as v4.08m while your previous Forgotten Battles game was probably patched to only 4.04m or maybe even 4.05m. If this is the case you might keep both versions if HD space isn't a concern; that way you can launch one or the other if you are an online player or if you have campaigns you want to finish, etc. Most people just keep the "1946" version and use the switcher utility with it if they need to use an older version online though.
