6800 Ultra or X800XT (or X800XT-PE if you can find one). Availability is sometimes a problem.

I have a feeling that the best set up has yet to be introduced. I am thinking that we will see SLI dual PCI Express set ups in about a year. Dual 6800 Ultra's SLI-ed coupled with something like an AMD FX-64 (or a processor that has yet to be developed) will actually run Pacific Fighters with all the eye candy turned on. 3D games are usually introduced with an eye towards the next generation of processors and video cards in mind.

I am in the same boat as Marcus, I am still using a P3-550E and I can't even begin to get into the PF game, so I need a new system now. The 6800 Ultra's are expensive, so I am setting my sights on a 6800GT in an AGP slot. So far, PCI Express seems to be directed at Intel processors and I want to try an AMD processor, so AGP is my only option at this time. Also, PCI Express video cards are fairly scarce and pricey.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll probably go with a 6800 Ultra. I'm also leaning towards at least a 3.4Ghz P4 with 2Gb Ram. Still not sure what monitor to go for, I like Sony stuff and have around 1000 to spend on a display. It's killing me seeing all these screenshots of PF and not being able to fly!!

If you can afford it and have the space, I would suggest considering a large CRT rather than an LCD panel. I use an Iiyama 510 22" CRT monitor and find it very useful for flight sims because I can change the resolution to match whatever mode I'm running the game. With a TFT you are stuck with hardwired pixels and if you don't run the game in that resolution the TFT monitor hardeware will remap the image to the pixels available. This can really screw up your anti-aliasing.

Benchmarks have shown that there is hardly an improvement with that card. It's just a move by ATI to try and capture the top spot.

Marcus763, if you have that money to spend on the system, have you considered an AMD 64 bit system? They run better in games than anything out there today.

Marcus, check this LCD monitor out.... http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-179-010&depa=1

I'm not sure if you can get one thru the States, but try to find a NewEgg site for the UK. I just got this one and it's very good for the money. Better price than most 17" LCDs and puts out a great picture too. And read the Reviews. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have a BFG 6800GT. It slices, it dices, it chops cans in half and still able to process 3D games at 50+ FPS.
