View Full Version : Eeek! I've gone deaf!!! Where are the people?

I was flying around in my Australian-issue Lerche (little known late war development) and blasting ME 262s out of the sky when a pesky 262 executed a nice double pike, reverse barrel over out of the sun and cut me in half.

And I went deaf... everything sounded muffled and distored for a few seconds until I bailed out.

I assume this was the result of temporary hearing damage from the percussion of the explosion?

Anyone else notice this?

Also, I thought cities and towns were full of cars and people now? But everywhere I fly over is devoid of life - kind of like Phnong Peng post Year Zero.

How do I get the place hopping with cars and people? So I can shoot them? I mean, fly over and drop leaflets urging them to capitulate.

There has never been 'deafness' modelled in the game. It's far more likely that your sound effects are compromised for some hardware or software reason outside of the sim

I don't know where you got the idea that cities were 'full of cars and people now', but it's just not so. There are very little in the way of people to begin with. If you strafe a truck that isn't on the 'static' list, troops will jump out and run, and there are several objects that have been made to represent troops manning mortar positions, and there are various machine guns that have a gunner, and gunners can be visible on ships, but you will never see a 'living' city in this sim. or any other contemporary flight sim for that matter. It is simply too taxing on your PC. I'm sorry but whoever told you that cities were 'alive' was very very much mistaken. There are cars, but very few, that can be used, but they are put there and given very programmed waypoints by mission builders. There is a wide variety of military vehicles that can also be placed in a similar manner, but you'll never see ground trrops slugging it out, and there are precisely zero civilians in the sim<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

And even the people that are there... you wont see most of them if your conf.ini file doesn't have this line:

3dgunners=1

set to 1 and not 0.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I experienced something like that:

I got hit by some MG rounds in Lerche and it seemed as the automatic prop pitch was damaged as the RPM increased rapidly at least on one engine - maybe on both. The engine sound frequency went higher and higher untill it suddenly fade off and all was silent. I pushed the throttle back and the sound came back as well....

Thanks for the replies.....

Caspar...that "sounds" exactly like what happened to me....I thought it seemed to add a bit more realism.

Caspar:
Did you ever overspeed the engine of a 109?
First, the sound of it gets ever higher and then it goes silent. If the throttle is kept on, then the engine will come back to life, screeching and ultimaltely dying.
But if you pull the throttle back before that happens, the engine will only be damaged.
This effect was there since i first played Il-2 it seems like you people just didn't notice it until now.
