I'm bettin' this won't update the add-on version and will only be in the Pure PF. Possibly another reason why the FB/AEP/PF add-on will not be compadible with the Pure install.

Hmmm, no German and Russian planes... with better grapghics shading to boot. I think I'm gonna love PF. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Don't think so. If SM 3 is used only on water than there is NO SENSE about it only working on pure PF. Only the mains application and render is affected. Nothing related to contents.

If brute force does not solve your problem... you are not using enough!

Does this mean that my new Abit Siluro FX5900 OTES GeForce FX5900 AGP 8X 128MB DDR with CineFX♠2.0 Engine Supports DX 9.0 Pixel Shader 2.0+ & Vertex Shader 2.0+ will not give me the water textures like I hoped? I went with this in hopes it would be easier on my pocket then a $500 card and better then the $300 bottom end nvidia 6800 card.

The lowest GF 6800 is much faster than the fastest and most expensive FX 5950 ultra or ATi 9800XT..

I'm already waiting for PS3.0 water with my new BFG 6800GT http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I heard that PS3.0 also dramatically boosts pixel shader performance over 2.0. So does this mean better FPS with "Perfect" water in PF?

You can make shaders tha are not possible with 2.0.. and you can make the same shaders that were made with 20.. but in a SIMPLER.. more direct way.. so more efficient. But the shaders must be rewritten to do so.

If brute force does not solve your problem... you are not using enough!

With PACIFIC in the title what did you expected? An grass simulator? The most importat eye candy stuuf is water in this game.

Ok, based on what you all told me, (mistake to order the 5900 card) I returned the 5900 and picked out a 6800GT. Hell if I am going to be crashing into the water it may as well look nice. Thanks for waking me up and fixing my mistake. I am much happier now posting 3DMark03 bench tests of 10941 on quality settings.

That doesn't really make any sense. The maps have a location that says water, boundary between water and land, and land. Thats the basics. When they upgrade the way that the water is rendered it does it for all instances of where that code is called into effect.

Its not map specific in other words. If it were, they were insane in programming it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The Shader 3 stuff is displacement mapping from what I understand. The video card takes a texture that is in black and white (grayscale) with dark and light regions. It interprets the light regions as being high points and the black as low and it gives a 3D geometry to it.

Its not a new technology...but its new for being done in real time on a home computer.

Nvidia will create a new download or a 3rd party will to enable the pretty water boys. The FX5900 has the S3Vpixler chip on it its jsut not used for anything right now..

Could you provide any links?

a little bit more complicated than that in this case. The displacement that you see in games now (called parallax mapping) is only a PIXEL level shader effect. With SM 3.0 you can MOVE the VERTEX of the water itself, not only to make it higher or lower than boundary.. but also all the wave shape, including breaking waves (that cannot be simmulated with parallax map)

If brute force does not solve your problem... you are not using enough!

Is this true? Simple YES or NO will suffice http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

possibly is a better answer. IF new shaders are written to take advantage of SM 3.0 capabilities.. you can have BETTER than PERFECT settings.. at best performance.

If brute force does not solve your problem... you are not using enough!
