Lyrics from Naked Raygun's "Rat Patrol".
"What we need to take control,we could use the Rat Patrol. What's that coming over the dune?...
Chasing the halftracks across the sandflats, got a nice pine box,for that desert fox, machine guns blaring, and Arabs staring wondering why,the Westerners are there. It's the same old story, and it'll happen again."

Some of the F4Fs looked like FM-2s (exhaust stacks on the side), to be sure I'll have to watch it more awake (watched while doing midnight feeding for our 5 MO, lol). DeBlanc's ship had nose art on the cowl (big), which seemed unlikely, I'd need to check. They really screwed up the japanese planes when talking about them---claiming wing instead of cowl mounted guns, etc.

What do they use to do the CG, anyone know?

Interesting to see real accounts of stuff that is easy to set up in the FMB. Imagine attacking those Vals from low 6 like that, they'd drill you in il-2.

Just looked at it again (ain't TIVO great?). The F4F-4 (sic) models are not F4Fs at all. Nor are they FM-2s, they are a bad model. Someone used F4Fs AND FM-2 to make the model, so they are neither. The exhaust stacks are on the plane from both the F4F (bottom of cowl) and on the sides (FM-2). The carb intake lip from the F4F-4 is there, but shouldn't be there on the FM-2.

Sloppy.

The paint job from the A6Ms I'm not sure about, I'm sure someone else would ID that sentai at a glance and tell us if it is correct.

I'm really enjoying this series, but I agree that they are making mistakes that a little bit of research could avoid.

The Wildcats, other than the problems already mentioned, seem to be modeled with four MGs, but the announcer keeps talking about six wing-mounted guns.

On at least one occassion, during the fight with the Oscars, they referred to them as Zeros. There were a couple of other inaccuracies I picked up on at the time, but can't remember now.

On the up-side, there are probably people watching this series who have never heard of many of these battles. At least they are being exposed to some history they wouldn't otherwise know about. I just wish the History Channel would have taken the time to do a good job of research so they could avoid the mistakes.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Well, the skin on them has smoke stains for 6, but since they clearly used the FM-2 as part of the model, that would explain the 4 guns since it only had 4.

Honestly, aside frm the big lower stacks, and the carb intake, the plane looks like an FM-2. (the tall v-stab was only on the last 826 FM-2s, so that is not a definitive FM-2 feature).

The whole Oscar fight got me wanting to check up on that anyway. They said it was January, I'm not sure when Oscars were operating in that area.

Actually, I was really excited to see this and the AVG one....Yet honestly some of it really bugs me, part of it being one of the people writing/producing it came to the j-aircraft forums and a lot of folks took time to answer his questions, and get him pics the person clearly knowing nothing about the aircraft or history of it................Naturally once they had their info, no thank you and never heard from again.

They're getting A LOT of armaments wrong, like on Ki-27 having 2x12.7mm guns, Ki-43 was right in AVG, yet then they turn around and the very same planes change them to just 7.7's wrong again.....I had a tough time seeing the zero, yet A6M3 would of been correct...Yet it looked to me like a A6M5, or maybe a A6M2 due to the wingtips......

The Ki-43 flew 1, a single mission against Guadalcanal escorting "Ki-48"....Not D3A2...Though I'd have to check I'm not sure if D3A2 or D3A1 were used in the area (betting D3A1)...In kind were F4F used or F2?......

What bugs me is, so many of these producers forget to simply check (well or get right as they check by asking then just walk away with part of the answer given not really caring)...Yet this is not "maybe" stuff...It is point blank, here it is, can't change history....

What's so difficult about repeating fact vs. faking much of it?

Guess that's what puts me off..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I thought it was a pretty good show too. I read a book about that campaign a long time ago. I'll have to re-read now.

I hope at some point they might do some shows on other air forces. I'd think there would be a lot stories from the IAF that would fill an episode or two.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It's about tactics, and it was a breath of fresh air. Ought to be a reminder to the dogmatic that in the real world there are many ways to skin a cat instead of endlessly chanting boomandzoomboomandzoomboomandzoom. Note the clever cat rider who chopped throttle and stuck to an A6M2 in a turn and clobbered it.

I think the AVG episode was the best so far. This Guadalcanal episode used alot the same stuff over and over then mirrored a few too, almost as if they rushed it out. AVG on the otherhand was a really fun episode to watch. Unfortuently we probably will never get to see any other perspective then a US one. Would love them to do one on Malta, but thats a real longshot.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have to agree with that as even my GF found that one interesting. I also enjoyed the Korea one quite a bit. Over all I like the series and would rather watch it with little naggling issues then 90% of eveything else that's on TV.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

yes - even with the inaccuracies its better than naught...BtW - does anyone else care for the camera shake effect when a plane flies past the midair static camera?....

I kinda like it myself, as well as the machine gun smoke puffs that flow back across the wings as the guns are fired.

What about the way those Japanes planes flame or explode instantly with just a few hits?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The whole friday night lineup on the History Channel is the best thing on TV right now. I would love to see some of the dogfights between the Finns and the Russians. Wonder if there were any Hurricane vs Hurricane battles.

Heywooood, you've never taken a Zero, Oscar, or Frank up on-line? The guys I fly with call them "the flying Ronsons". I've heard a SINGLE hit to my plane and had flames streaming from it afterwards.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
