But not from me. And I think it will be better than mine

I just bumped into Obelix on the SimHQ forums.

He is updating (and I suspect expanding) on the AVG campaign he did a while back

For those who don't know, Obelix is a very talented skinner from Paris, France

The campaign that he is updating has things like a custom medal pack, and it's flown from the 'none' country selection, so you will probably be seeing authentic medals and such. I saw a sneak peak at his H81A-2 skins for the campaign and they are fantastic.

I have a soft spot for my little campaign, but he is doing a more historically accurate campaign, and I can't wait to see it.

His 'old' version is availabe still but it does some things like the player starts parked off the runway, which PF won't do.

Keep your eyes peeled for this campaign. If you liked my AVG campaign, I am betting you'll love his effort when it's done http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hey Chris, very gentlemanly of you to take that attitude--you could have just said nothing about the rival campaign. I for one will always have a soft spot for WTCF. I'm still enjoying the hell out of it, only on mission 12, but that's only because I started over after 8 missions the first time, when those ba$$tard biplanes nailed me FIVE times in a row in the RR mission. I did learn from that experience though, and now follow doctrine, so to speak, when flying the P40 against all Japanese fighters--get plenty of altitude, boom in, zoom out, get altitude, repeat.

Because of WTCF, I bought and just finished Daniel Ford's "Flying Tigers", and am starting on Charlie Bond's Diary. I'm also lining up a half dozen books on the CBI Theater which have been languishing in my library for 10-15 years--I just never was able to really connect with that theater before. I've had alot of fun working up some Sino-Japanese War missions with Russian and Italian aircraft (playing various parts from both sides) that I wouldn't normally have spent any time with. And I now have 5 campaigns going--thanks Gil57, Extreme One, Poymando, and Paul Lowengrin--I never flew one before yours, even back in 2002 the first time I started with IL2.

So, your little number--well, I can't exactly put my finger on why it charged me up so much, but it ratcheted up my enjoyment of this sim many notches in a short time.

Three Cheers!

P.S. I really like your Magwe airfield. What a interesting little place to fly from. I've already stolen it for some of my homebuilt missions. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Yours will be a tough one to top Chuck. Even if its more historically accurate, yours has the mystical fun factor which I think is very hard to achieve, especially with all the effort you put into making the campaign as historically based as possible.

i too am having an awesome time with WTCF - just by chance a long-overdue shipment arrived the next day from an amazon proxy seller of "BAA-BAA-BLACKSHEEP" which totally adds the backstory to this .

awesome. i will gladly pay for the next one if that draws an even bigger effort.

Chuck, wanna thank you and your gang for all your efforts on your AVG campaign! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I think it's a good effort and now that I'm on my brand spankin new custom built PC (Thanks Mom! (no kidding, she builds them)) I can now play IL2 with ease. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif Got the new Fatl1ty AA8XE from ABIT running a P4 3.67 GHz hyperthreading with 1GB of RAM. ATI All-In-Wonder X600 Series video card and Western Digital 76 GB HD running at 10,000 RPM and this alone is worth the much better game play. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif No more Herky-Jerky frame rates here! OK, no more gloating here! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Anyway, I also hope to see this new AVG campaign soon as I have always liked their explots. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I even got to meet Robert L. Scott Jr. once and he even autographed a book I bought of his too. **** fine gentleman to talk too as well. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I played some of it a year or so ago... no offense intended, but I liked yours alot better C_O. More suited to my preference ... right to the action. There aren't as many typos in yours either. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Chuck, yours is the most well-written campaign that I have played in this game. I have yet to see the sort of typos that I see in the STOCK missions that have come with the games.

I'm at Magwe right now, and yes, that is an awesome place to fly from. Not many places te set down a crippled bird.

However, thanks for the heads-up, mate. After playing all of WTCF, I'll give it a whirl . . . at the speed of which I play (work http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif holds me up http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) the other campaign will be out by then. If you say it will be good, well, I know that it will!
