Couple of things.

1) When I first turned on 'Wind+Turbulence' in difficulties I kinda expected windsocks to automagically appear on the runways - but they didn't. Someone please tell me they are active objects somewhere in the object list, already, even?

2) I run AEP2.04 - haven't graduated to PF yet, but would it be at all possible in future versions to add a bit more code to allow planes to land and refuel and re-arm if they are undamaged rather than having to exit the mission and fly again - small thing but would be so satisfying from the realism POV.

What a sim this is! I have never seen programming like it in this genre - far out and total thanks to you Oleg+team for sticking with it in so dedicated a manner. Sincere hats off to you (even if you do seem to have it in for the Brits for some, probably sound, reason http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

A good wind sock is, go to outside view[if on]and watch your plane as it is blown around and there you have it.

Wind sock

For landing aim it and close eyes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

After you've been on these boards a while you'll realize that probably everything that enters your mind has been thought of months ago and verbalized somewhere on these boards.

Oleg and his team are "get around to it's". They'll get around to it in their time, but it's generally better than what you'd imagined.

Just look at the number of views on any posting by Oleg_Maddox. The guy has the attention of the whole community.

Welcome aboard http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Windsocks and dynamic flags would be great. Probably a future feature but not something we have.

We'll probably get better wind modeling too...with shifting winds. That'd be cool!

Point taken, nearmiss - hence my fred title http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Thanks for the responses - now back to figuring why TS2 goes doo-lally when AEP runs... nobody's answered me on the general board - must be a Win98se prob.

I love the windsock idea. Assuming the wind modelling - if that's the correct terminology - made a real difference, it would make takeoff and landing a lot more interesting.

True - having waving flags and windsoks, smoketrails being blown away by wind & stuff would be great. Hope to see it in BoB.

But the rearm and refuel thing is a bit too easy. Of course you can do it - just look at LOMAC, but it's a good example how absolutely non-sense this would be, as it takes 4 to 6 hours from landing empty to take off full and checked in a WW2-plane. I surely don't wanna wait that time on an online DF-server after each landing.

Hi, Capt LoanArranger, I was thinking more along the lines that if you've landed successfully without damage, a quick taxi to a waiting tanker and truck load of ammo would be sufficiently realistic... otherwise hit the ] key to compress?

Yes Im sure that every questin has been asked at one time or another.

The fact that the search engine here does NOT work kind of makes that a moot point unless you want to drag through thousands of postings.

~hi~ mango

Don't be shouted at...read History!

During the first days of November, the Romanian Henschel pilots practically saved the 24th Infantry Division, which was retreating followed closely by Soviet forces. They managed to fly about 15-16 missions per day each! No other Romanian group made as many sorties in one day, as the 8th Assault Group did then. There was always a patrula (Romanian for Schwarm) in the air covering the infantrymen. Thus they managed to rescue the lives of more than 10,000 men. Five assault aircraft were lost, as were two pilots. The other three were rescued by their comrades.

And...November in Eastern Europe has very short days. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

IL~2 and Yak pilots often had to fly 3-4 missions per day, after Re~arm and Re~fuel. One Bf~109 ace got shot down during Battle of Kursk, was given a ride back to base, and took up another 109 to rejoin battle.

Of course, this was Eastern Front where distance to frontline combat area was often very short, with equally short flying times, so many missions could be flown during the day.

P~51 escort pilot Bud Anderson writes of Bf~109s attacking B~17s and the 109s landing and taking off multiple times to attack again as the bombers slowly came to target and then turned back to England.

Re~Arm and Re~fuel combined with the *total* removal of the fake arcade Instant Refly on the FB internet servers would finally bring realism to online play. Instead of online Cheaters bailing out (or disconnecting) before they get shot down (and losing precious internet Brownie Points) and hitting Instant Refly, they would be forced to survive attack and land at airbase and wait for at least some time...maybe 10 minutes would be a good playable compromise (10 minute "death ban" seems to work for some servers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif ). This 10 minute period would leave refitting players vulnerable to airfield attack....unless their base is protected by other online simmers. If online players don't like protecting their own airfields, we begin to see where the FB online play Realism Problem lies, and its not Re~arm and Re~fuel. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And this applies especially to Super Planes like Me~262 which was vulnerable on landing, which with Instant Refly suffers little historical vulnerability in the current game. In fact, if we find a good playable compromise time (server and offline setting perhaps), different planes can be given different re~fit times. I know Hurricane could be hastily Re~armed and Re~fueled in 30 minutes, and He~111 maybe 6 hours. So let Hurricane sit for 5 minutes, He~111 sit for maybe 30 minutes.

Always compare computer gamer Shouts on a webboard with the real life experience of WW2 combat pilots.
