What is the brand of your DVD drive, is it a ROM or RW? Please list your brand and model (if you know it) if you have NO problems.

I ask because I was going to buy a Samsung DVD-RW but someone posted they had problems with their Samsung and the DVD. So I am thinking Lite-On, BenQ, NEC...

I have two Liteon DVD drives. Cheap and cheerful. Ones a DVD burner that i've had for a couple of years, the other is a normal DVD drive I've had since 2001.

When getting a DVD burner look at the formats it can burn etc. Plextor are generally the best though if you want bells and whistles.

Wolf, did you install from the burner? All I have right now is a CD-RW, it'd be replaced by the DVD-RW.

I was thinking Lite-on too, they're like $35 on Newegg.com. Originally thought Samsung since that is what my CD-RW is, it's been reliable and I tend t stick with brands that have proven so.

Things install from it fine. I installed the new IL2 series DVD from it a couple of days ago http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

There good if you just want it for burning data DVD's but go with what you know if that makes you more comfortable with your purchase.

Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D

Works fine, just installed and tested DVD edition, also running fine with SH3 (so far my only DVD titles with this fairly new drive).

It also burns fast and true http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif and comes bundled with Nero.

I have an Nec 3520.(dvd+rw/-rw)I have had no problems. But I do not have the IL2 dvd.

There has been some problems in the past with the copy protection on the original cds of the games with some dvd/rw as well as some cd/rw.

Get a Pioneer mate, they read anything and write really compatible Cd/DVDs.

A Pioneer 109 or 110 are great buys.

Inexpensive and very reliable. Unless the newer units come with updated firmware, you'll need to do that for it to read all the newer brands of meida available. I use mine to burn cds, dvds, and data discs using windows media player, Nero, and 1 click dvd copy. Have had no trouble what so ever, including SHIII. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Never had a problem with a NEC 3500a, even though I haven't the il2 dvd collection to atest.

I've used an LG GDR8162B DVD-ROM for two years. Cheap as all $hit and has never let me down with anything, ever.

My other drive is a Lite-On CD-RW, so not up for the count in your book, but it too has been bullet-proof for the same two years.

Best regards,

I play IL2 on my low end machine now, it has a HP300n DVD Reader/Writer. Nothing special about it but I've never had a problem with it reading any disks or creating disks that other people's DVD palyers couldn't read.
