I live in South Cumbria (UK) and I ususaly see Harriers, Tornados, Hercules', Lynx one or 2 EF Typhoons etc, all the usual RAF stuff as well as the odd F-15.

I ask as today I'm 95% sure I saw a Lancaster Bomber fly over my house, it had the same cockpit area configuration, had 4 engines and had a "H" tail, but obviously they're rare which is why there's the 5% uncertanty. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Anyone have any other stories about rare/interesting aircraft that have flown over them before (not counting Air shows).

Plus does anyone know from where/to any Lancs are flying recently so I can be sure, can't be that hard to learn about them as they're so few, can it? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

to the best of my knowledge there are only two flyable lancasters left, one in Canada and one in the UK. both are flown very rarely as to conserve the limited flight hours their airframes have left.

When I lived in Oshawa, near Toronto, there was a Douglas DC-3 that would fly over my apartment almost every night. I lived fairly close to the local airport so it was pretty low going over my flat.

Besides being a sight, it was also music to my ears. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

I have to admit though, I never once saw it passover missing the cockpit. Sometimes I doubt this sim. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Was working outside about two years ago when the Mynarksi Memorial Lancaster (Canadian Warplane Heritage) and the Mitchell bomber flew over low in formation. They were probably doing a good 300mph as they just zipped along at a rapid pace.

I think thats when they were doing the ceremony for HMCS Haida in the harbour. Beautiful sight!

Only very recently here at college a B-17, B-25, and P-51 flew over us multiple times. It was very exciting and I cursed myself for not having a camera.

When I lived at home in Lincolnshire we had alsorts flying over our house on the way to the bombing range at RAF Holbeach. Used to see the Lanc on its way from Coningsby to air shows all the time.

Rarest thing I saw was the the Nimrod AEW prototype, Coolest was 30 Hercules at 500 feet with 5th Airborne brigade on board going to the Army training ground at Thetford. That got the whole street out looking!
