Hello!

I've been thinking of a way to enhance the briefing screen in Il-2.
As we all know it is textbased and often difficult to give a grid reference for people to bomb when they don't have a clue what the target site looks like.

The IL-2 game can read simple tags like <ARMY></ARMY>

I thought why not include some simple tags for a briefing picture.

So the briefing could look like this.
--------------------------------------------
Mission - Bomb the enemy 1941
date: 1941
Time: 08:00
<ARMY NONE>
Please choose side and return to brief
</ARMY>
<ARMY RED>
Objective: Bomb 2 ships of the coast.

<IMG 1>
This picture describes the target
</IMG>
</ARMY>

---------------------------------
The pictures are saved in a zip file called after the mission.
and the pictures are stored as 1,2,3,4.jpg etc..
the tags are then <IMG 1>, <IMG 2>, <IMG 3>

mission.mis
mission.properties
mission.img "zip file!"

surely this should be possible!

I agree. The screen as it is right now is kinda blah. Still better than most sims though.

Nice Idea Turbo, now why didn´t the Maddox programmers come up with such an easy solution. I surpose they spend all day changing the Flight Management and Weapons Effect for the "whiners" in the forum. Please gents spend less time on people who want the P40 to out perform an F16 and more time on making some of the earlier Ai planes flyable.

Isnt a new idea but sometimes after years it gets noticed hopefully.

CD_Frank, there was certainly nothing stopping the dev team from getting the FMs and physics model closer to correct the first time. That they seem to spend so much time tweaking it says something about its overall quality, doesn't it?

It's not the players' fault that the errors are so glaring and obvious as to scream for changes.

The suggestions on mission briefings are good ones, although it also remains to be said that a good scenario author could do most of this himself, just by making sure all the info needed for a decent briefing is there.

Maybe those details...
recon shots/ coords, etc

would be good on a kneeboard

maybe????

I was very disappointed in new briefing for PF...
It got very difficult to know the position of target(what is with that "256,356" thing?)
And you don't know the distance to the target or position of the carrier when over the target etc.

we all know that planning is essential for a successful mission.
In the military it's often referred as:
Proper Planning Prevents P**s Poor Performance

It's important that we get the most out of the information provided by briefings because it's happened too often that people don't understand even basic coordinates and end up bombing friendlies because there are no visual cues.

I like the idea of seeing how the target looks like and the situation of the target,where are the AAA guns, how to attack the target (wich flightpath) so i can get out with none or minor damage due the AAA http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif
