Yes, yes, I know the one I wrote was ****ed impressive, thanks for thinking of that one, but in this case I meant something that was actually performed/recorded.

Metallica's (before they became 'Selloutica') rendition of The Small Hours. I was flying my offline campaign a bit the other night and it struck me as perfect when this Yak9 was trying to turn and climb and reach me. "You cannot touch me, you would not dare, I am the chill that's in the air". That plus the overall feel of the music is perfect for going hunting with a pack of 262s.

Naturally, it's not written for the 262, so we kinda need to approach it like something from Nostradamus or the like. Something hinted at and written in weak code, and often with filler thrown in because directness might have been too dangerous. lol

You're drawn at the darkness,
and you will see,
just call my name and I'll be there. <-- Hmm, from the plane's perspective referring to the pilot being readied for a dawn flight and assuring reliability?

You cannot touch me,
you would not dare,
I am the chill that's in the air. <-- Speaking to enemy planes and pilots. It can't be touched by such mere mortals. And the chill in the air is always ominous.

So I try to get through to you,
in my own special way,
as the barriers crumble,
at the end of the day. <-- Either filler or, getting through to bombers or chosen (areial) targets in it's own special (jet powered) way.

Dark rivers are flowing,
back into the past,
You are the fish for which I cast. <-- 1st 2, filler, last one - speaking to enemies again.

And what of the future,
what is to be,
as the rivers flow into the sea. <-- Asking who will win? Hinting that blood will flow like rivers?

So I try to get through to you,
in my own special way,
as the barriers crumble,
at the end of the day. <-- Repeat chorus.

Do not take for granted,
powers out there,
don't step into the demon's lair. <-- Speaking to the pilot "Yes, we can be nigh invincible, but don't get too cocky, there are limits." And the last line is basically "Don't be an idiot, stay away from the flak." (yeah, trust me on this one. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif lol)

Time is an illusion,
rising from time,
steep is the mountain which we climb. <-- 'Climbing'? Like getting altitude?

So I try to get through to you,
in my own special way,
as the barriers crumble,
at the end of the day. <-- Repeat chorus.

Alone Again (Naturally)

Words and Music by Raymond O'Sullivan
Recorded by Gilbert O'Sullivan

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a little while from now
If I'm not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower
And climbing to the top will throw myself off
In an effort to make it clear to whoever
What it's like when you're shattered
Left standing in the lurch at a church
Where people saying: "My God, that's tough"
"She stood him up"
"No point in us remaining"
"We may as well go home"
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally

To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright and gay
Looking forward to, who wouldn't do?
The role I was about to play?
But as if to knock me down
Reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me to doubt
Talk about God in His mercy
Who, if He really does exist,
Why did He desert me?
In my hour of need
I truly am indeed
Alone again, naturally

It seems to me that there are more hearts
Broken in the world that can't be mended
Left unattended
What do we do? What do we do?

(instrumental interlude)

Alone again, naturally

Looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally

No words to this, just raises the hairs on your neck and makes it easy to imagine yourself soaring high in the dark looking down for easy-meat prey:

Goering€s on the phone from freiburg
Says willie€s done quite a job
Hitler€s on the phone from berlin
Says I€m gonna make you a star

My captain von ondine is your next patrol
A flight of english bombers across the canal
After twelve they€ll all be here
I think you know the job

They hung there dependant from the sky
Like some heavy metal fruit
These bombers are ripe and ready to tilt
Must these englishmen live that I might die
Must they live that I might die

In a g-load disaster from the rate of climb
Sometimes I€d faint and be lost to our side
But there€s no reward for failure - but death
So watch me in mirrors keep in the glidepath

Get me through these radars, no, I cannot fail
While my great silver slugs are eager to feed
I can€t fail - no, not now
When twenty five bombers wait ripe

They hung there dependant from the sky
Like some heavy metal fruit
These bombers are ripe and ready to tilt
Must these englishmen live that I might die
Must they live that I might die

Me-262 prince of turbojet
Junker€s jumo 004
Blasts from clustered r4m quartets in my snout
And see these english planes go burn

Well, you be my witness, how red were the skies
When the fortresses flew for the very last time
It was dark over westphalia
In april of €45

They hung there dependant from the sky
Like some heavy metal fruit
These bombers are ripe and ready to tilt
Must these englishmen live that I might die
Must they live that I might die

Must these englishmen live that I might die...junker€s jommo 004

Bombers at 12 o€clock high

Wow, I'm almost speechless. Pretty good for a rock band. Still waiting for the rest of the file to get here, then I'll see if it beats "Stratosphere".

I was kind of surprised when I first heard it as well. BOC is more known for playing dark themed music: Godzilla, Nosferatu, Revenge Of Vera Gemeni, Don't Fear The Reaper . . . on and on, but the 262 song is not like most of their writting. Its more of a rocking song. It'll get your blood boiling in the pit http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I love it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yo Tsisqua! http://blitzpigs.com/forum/images/smiles/hello.gif 'sup?

Yeah, I have that BOC song, but I never really cared for it personally. I dunno, just doesn't really do anything for me. http://blitzpigs.com/forum/images/smiles/shrug.gif

Hmmmmm...just finished the download and I still think "Stratosphere 1995" is better. More menacing. Thanks anyway, though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

You know, there are certain songs that would go PERFECTLY together with a nicely made IL2 film. In fact, they are so perfect, that you can listen to the music, and imagine the combat scenes in your head! I've been known to daydream in my car while listening to a few of these songs. One song I can mention off the top of my head is Sheep by Pink Floyd. The song gives me a particular RAF during Battle of Britain feel to it, where the sheep symbolize German bombers.

Each part of the song seems to sort of represent a part of an aerial battle; from take off, to spotting the enemy, to engaging in combat, to scoring, and to being shot at, and then finally landing... I especially like the ending guitar riff!

Maybe it's just me but this kind of "daydreaming" is a real stress reliever when you're itching to play IL2 but can't!

Hey, did you ever play the game "Ripper" by Take 2 Interactive (speaking of BOC)?

That song needs some more cowbell!!! (Where's the guy with the Will Ferrell sig?)

Anyway, for the 262, might I suggest the Dead Kennedy's "California Uber Alles"?

Hey, CivilDog - is that Stratosphere 1995 a reworking of a track from TD's 1976 album Stratosfear ?

Or is it a completely new track ? I have the early album, but not anything recent.

Cheers

"Stratosfear1995" is what it says on the label so I assumed it is a rewrite, or at least a remastering. I have it on the Tyranny of Beauty CD which was produced in 1995.

I don't have a copy of the original "Stratosfear" album to compare it with. Bad Tangerine Dream is like bad bagpipe music, so i'm pretty selective of what I have of their's. This album is my favorite, though.

OOps - I notice I misspelled the song in my initial post. It's "STRATOSFEAR1995" not STRATOSPHERE1995". But yes, it was still produced in 1995 not 1976 so it's either a write or a comlpetely new song.

Ah, thanks for that - lost this thread for a bit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Btw, I can recommend the 1976 album, however, it is seriously mellow. My favourite is still "Poland" - live in Warsaw.

I'll keep an eye out for this one, maybe give it a listen in a music shop.

Cheers

Franz Schubert's Symphony No.8 in B Minor is my personal favorite, for the Me-262 or otherwise...
