Was playing around a bit a while back. Here is a jpeg of what I got with water=2. I have posted a link to the uncompressed bitmap below. Its over 2mb, so caution to 56k users.

http://phantomfighters.nrgservers.net/Water=2.jpg

uncompressed bitmap (http://phantomfighters.nrgservers.net/Coastie%20Pics/il2fb%202006-01-18%2022-56-13-14.bmp)

I must say I also Prefer water=0 for its all around looks and better playability. Water=2,3,4 just looks silly in creeks and rivers.

Coastie, you need to change the URL to accept the spaces. It should read:

Yeah, I just figured that out, very strange!

I am using the IE7b and it wont let me copy from address bar anymore. I had to get the url from properties. Must be a glitch!

Or is there a way I can change that in options somehow?

I am still getting used to IE7b, but I do like it so far.

they need to change the oceans color depending on the... ocean or lake. Lakes are usually kinda green i think? unless its freshwater. I dont really know i'm not a big fan of water i just drink it.

Though I set mine for performance to some degree (not using perfect water).....There is another side point to all this.

Photo real water makes everything else look out of place and like garbage......Balanced water makes everything else look better or more in place. Seriously, some screenshots look like cartoons placed on a photo.....Though an illusion of sorts, a bit of balance makes everything more real looking.

Just an opinion.

Yes. Some of the textures could easily be improved; as you say landscape looks like a (bad) cartoon in some respects. Sand is much, much lighter in real life (or appears so at distance!), and tarmac roads should appear lighter than the surrounding grass...just compare to the road outside your house. The roads look totally unrealistic from altitude. These sort of mistakes shouldn't happen, the development team only have to ask any half descent artist if things look OK or not.
This is a real shame considering that the lighting effects in the game are superb; the landscape would really benefit from some reworking of the textures.
I hope that the development team don't repeat these mistakes with BoB, they are so easy to avoid and make a huge difference to the look of the game.
In my opinion!!!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I came to IL2 from X plane and have never gone back!
Sure i could design and build my own planes in X plane but the world in x plane looked like ****! Water looked like ****, land looked like **** and lets not even talk about the beaches and the total lack of particles.
The guys and gals who wrote the code for the water effects and the particle effects for IL2 should be given a saint hood for their amazing work!
Now i just have to update my video card to 128megs and i'll be chilling!

I wish I knew. I get some reflections, but not as good as I would like. If you look at the Bf-109F4 shot you can see a partial reflection in the water. I have another shot of me landing an A2M2-N with a good reflection, but I did not put that on photobucket.

However, it seems to have a lot to do with your graphics card. I spent over $300.00 getting an INVIDIA Geforce 7800 and it has made a huge difference - as you might be able tell if you remember some of the shots I posted some months back. I'd offer to buy you one, but I'm not that well-off. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I was gonna buy you Pe-2 until I saw someone else had already offered. @MLudner - well, Low_Flyer beat me to it. Download it. You will wonder why you never did it before. The site is pretty confusing but once it is on your PC you will be laughing. It takes a few minutes to set your preferences and then transfer them to the game other than that it is a cinch.
I agree about the party ideology but the planes do look more realistic with the "hakenkreuz".

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif Thank you, Low Flyer and Flatspin.

At $595.00 US it will be a little while before I can upgrade to that, especially considering that I shall be moving in the next couple of months at some point and I have to hire movers due to injuries (Bad back - lifting heavy objects onto big vehicles, injured knees - fell into a turtle ditch in Korea [it was very dark http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif], then blew a parachute landing at Ft. Lewis that finished them off) and that will cost more than the graphics card.

$595.00 U.S. - I paid 135.00 Stirling...you sure you got the right dealer in your neck of the woods? Or did I just get an even better deal than I thought? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

That was the price I saw on a website selling graphics cards .... maybe that was high-end.

Still would be about $200.00 US at L135.00 (I don't have the right font for the pound stirling symbol).
