View Full Version : Is 4.07 any worse than 4.08?

I've been out of the loop for a year or so, but I recently got around to re-installing Il-2, now that I have a bigger hard drive and can spare the room.

I have everything up to 4.04m, but I'm thinking of buying the DVD which will take me up to 4.07.

The question I'm asking is whether 4.08 is a substantial improvement over 4.07. I don't play online, so I don't care about that. What I do care about is that I'm on dial up, so all this talk of "simply" downloading a 150mb patch is not possible. I want to know if 4.07 is worthwhile without 4.08.

Any information appreciated.

I can't answer the FM question, but 4.08 has the desert map that is drop-dead gorgeous!

When I was a dial-yuppie I needed people to burn patches to disk http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Now that I'm a Cable Hero, I can burn 4.08 and mail it to you http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Offliners need 4.08 because without it, they can't play my campaign http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

Hi djetz,

My personel opinion is that, You will be happy that you invest in 4.07 and if you patch 4.08 you will be Happy.

No matter what your opinion of the the "Ubber" aircraft is, 1946 (407/408) is excellent, and is definately a step up from 4.04, possibly more than a step.

When you get the game, check out the handling of the Twin engine medium Bombers, much more realistic.

Oh! One word of warning, in QMB, Watch the Axis and Russian AAA, you can get out and "Walk on it". And the US AAA is not greater in volume "Persae", but is layed out more "Sneakilly". I think the guy who did the AAA for the US, may have had the middle name of "Napolean".

This is just my impression of 1946 djetz, I'm sure you would be happy with your investment. I know I am. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Actually, the DVD takes you to 4.06. 4.07 is an interim patch that should be ignored now that 4.08 is available. Repeating, you do NOT need the 4.07 patch if you get the 4.08 patch.

Slight error http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The DVD certainly is 4.07, with no mistake

The 'interim' patch was 4.071

Sturmoviks over manchuria was 4.06
1946 was 4.07

4.071 was the beta patch
the official patch was 4.08, the current version http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I just put in a bid on ebay for the DVD.

I didn't think I'd take much convincing.

BBB462cid - I'll PM you about burning a CD of the 4.08 patch for me, thank you very much indeed. And yes, offline campaigns are good reasons.

A nice desert map sounds like a worthwhile addition to me, thanks for mentioning it Zeus-cat.

And thanks to all for answering, I appreciate the help.
