OK. So, how do you find your heading in full real cockpit and no speedbar?

Put your ear to the ground, and follow the tanks.

Its not just the Yaks some of the german planes are blocked by the gun sight as well. As for how do you fly in cockpit, use your controls and ask the ground crew to give you a vector home, if you dont have the speed bar then use the terrain to guide you. If you take off in a field and pass a river etc etc, then you'll know your air field isn't in the mountains your over. Other then that use a different plane.

may you not become a dirt torpedo.

Well, you can get a glimpse of it if you push your stick forward real hard with headshake on. It appears to work, you just can't use it. We've been begging for a head up and down/left and right viewing option for quite some time now. I love the game as it is, but would love it more if I could do this.

I have noticed that it is marginally usable in the Yak 3 if you do what tsisqua said about pushing forward. You do however have to be zoomed in with the view down in the cockpit and it helps to push down and then pull back. If you do hard enough, you should get a glimpse of the compass reading, just enough to know where you are going. I do wish they would modify the model though, as the above method is somewhat of a pain. I am sure the current placement is accurate, but I would rather see a slight inaccuracy with improved usability considering the limitations of the sim environment.

I agree..this is bullsh*t. Bad planning and execution on Maddox's part. Why make the cockpit so you can't see the darn dials to navigate?

It's unavoidable with an immobile pilot. To make the cockpit different would result in historical inaccuracies so blatant that someone at 1C would have to die.

For this reason, we have speedbar. Just turn it off when you're done using it.

Bug in game.. pilot should be able to move to see the compass behing gunsight in Yaks.. but not possible in Fb.. In german planes you can see the compass if you move to default non-gunsight view (shift + f1).. not possible in yaks.. gunsight is totally blocking the compass. That is why most online leagues (VOW, VEF) keep speed bar on, so Yak-pilots can navigate..

A translucent texture in the gunsight should solve the problem both keeping accuracy in location of compass and current limitations of the pilot's head movement. It shouldn't be that hard to do, really.

In the case of the Yak, I have to disagree that the inaccuracy would be blatant. It would only involve negative translation on the z axis equivalent to about or less than a half inch of real world space. This would to me be very acceptable as well as preferable to requiring the speedbar for navigation.

Yea , that is great . Fly full real in a aircraft without a basic compass. lol..

You do like the others , thay just fly around and hope that they find someone or the airfield..
