....of the builds and rebuilds, corrupt files, clean out registry and old files, installing new drivers, reformatting, losing campaigns, and on and on and on with a rig I have well over $3K USD invested into. Brand new X-45 controller never out of box for 3 months now because I can't get computer to settle down. Overheating, cold shutdowns, disk errors, freezeups, uninstall, reinstall....maybe I have chosen the wrong hobby. Or maybe this is just the wrong sim for me. I love the WWII ****, but this constant breaking down on a machine I'm convinced is a damn good build...wears me out...a whiny woman without even bosoms...forget Pacific Fighters, not going to fight the million bugs and glitches that will come with that...very close to surrendering to the great god of flight simming...maybe impale my eyes on my flight stick.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/cry.gif

Works fine here. Sounds like a hardware problem somewhere.

Remember that dude last year who would show up Whinig every month or so about missing JAVA dll or something and never could fix it over 2 years of Whinig and blamed Oleg, then one day he changed motherboard and he posted he finally got FB working after like 2 years lol.

Lexx...I know I'm whining...I just have to vent...The guy who built my computer is not a gamer...He put in all the bells and whistles that I wanted, but he just doesn't know gaming tweaks...I try to follow all of the advice on here, but it's hard for me...I do the best I can...I just marvel that so many people get things to work so well...I know I have a hardware problem and I also have about 20 disk errors...It's time to reformat, which I don't know how to do; I have to get someone to do it for me, and then reload everything all over again and do the whole dance with drivers, etc...This has turned into an all out whine...I just want to sit down and play the freaking game!!!

Wow PCs are odd.

I've been playing IL2 for 2 years on a used machine I paid $350 for. I don't think it's ever been down for even a day. I bought it specifically to run this game. Smooth as silk online, shakes and stutters on big offline campaigns. Good thing I don't play offline. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Well I could have you ship your machine to me and let me work on it. Or you can learn about PC stsarting today.

All you need to do is like I and several others have. The ansers are all on the web. do a google search. Here are some reformatting links, from the search.

http://www.umt.edu/reslife/Reformat.htm

http://www.cyberwalker.net/faqs/how-tos/reinstall-faq.html

http://www.cyberwalker.net/faqs/reinstall-reformat-winxp/

http://www.everythingcomputers.com/reformat.htm

Now when you find your anseres print them out. Then go do it.

As far as hardware goes I and othersa would need to know what you have. I've built machines out of a dumpster and loaded FB on them and played it. Not in perfect mode or even exelent but I played it. I use FB tracks to sort of burn a machine in overnight. If it runns it all night with no errors its usuallyu a stable machine for anything I put on it.

Have you checked your Private Topics recently? (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=ugtpc&s=400102)

Breeze go down to local bookstore and get a book on WindowsXP or whatever Windows you use. It will tell you how to re~format and you will kick yourself about it cos its so easy once you do it yourself.

You could be having power supply problems, Trojans or adware (yes get FireFox browser), bad memory can corrupt your hard drive data your Windows uses, etc...or any mixture of these issues.

*Best* thing you can do is read Uprgrading and Repairing PCs by Scott Mueller. Find it at any large computer superstore or local book store chain like Borders. About 1500 pages and updated every year. I am not saying start building your own, just start reading this one book over a period of time, skipping any parts you wish to ignore for now. Just read it and see what happens to your "comfort" feeling around computers as well as all the internet computer talk. Just read it. Eventually you may start thinking in your head that you could build your own machine...at least partway...the local shop can help you with software installs like internet setup. Software setups are the hardest and most frustrating part of computer building. Weird.

Book is serious but humourous, the author is a computer professional as well as serious classic car enthusiast as you will see, and he makes the most sense of any author either in book or on internet. That, and when I read it to learn I found it kinda neat to sit down with my old computer OFF learning about things to build my own new computer (last year).

I don't have "uber" gaming machine at all, one reason FB may be so stable for me. In fact I build with very mundane "non~gaming" parts for that reason. I just *upgraded* to ATI 9200 video card this year lol. I don't even have a sound card nor do I use onboard sound--no sound at all. I usually JAM http://www.lexxfans.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/109.gif all the time with stereo even with FB running so I never have use for sound in my software. One less problem to deal with--that and I had read all the Whinig about FB sound http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/34.gif and so I never bothered.

When you come back up download the FireFox browser if you have not yet. It saved my butt from lots of infection problems (finally cleared it up I did on my own).

"gaming parts"

lol sounds silly when you think about it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I agree with Lex. I bought the book he is referring to 2 years ago and built my first PC (and I'm just a geek CPA with no formal computer training). Everything went well and I have never had an issue with it since. Its amazing what you can learn from reading these threads and listening to the experts in the forum. There are also plenty of people who are willing to help you offline from this forum - a gtreat group for sure. Also reading Tom's Hardware and Motherboards.org is a good place to learn about good hardware. Good luck!

good luck!

Amazing what a little knowledge can do for you...

If I'd known what I know now, then would have taken a very different approach to my last upgrade.

Best wishes anyhow and hope you get up and running soon.

Normally Spiny Norman was wont to be about
twelve feet from snout to tail, but when Dinsdale was depressed Norman could be
anything up to eight hundred yards long.
