I am flying a boxed campaign with the SBD3 1942 and I cannot remove the gunsight cover from the gunsight. I've tried everything and the only thing you can do is magnify the sight and look through that. Is this the only way you can handle this situation? Makes landing on a carrier rather difficult.

SBD3 doesnt have a gunsight cover, it just looks black when you dont look into it...

if you need to aim without "Shift+F1", then you use the little ring on the left side of the sight, it is centered by default...

Uhmmm.... how about using the gunsight view for destroying carriers, and using the nomal view for landing?

On most of the carrier planes, you can open the canopy and raise the seat to see over the nose a little better during landings. You'll have to map keys to the 'open canopy' and 'raise seat' functions.

It seems that you can't raise the seat in the SBD3 though, so your choices when landing are:
1. Zen ... just know where the plane is as you sit in the cockpit;
2. External view; or
3. Wonder Woman view, where you remove the cockpit panel completely.

In the Wonder Woman view toggle, one of the views has a little circle that floats free around a fixed larger circle. This is to help you make steady approaches.

Thank you gentleman for your help. It's good to know that the small gunsight to the left is the gunsight to use. I'm finding that the SBD3 does not fare well in a shootout with three Zekes. They tear my flight of four up every time. I have to work on dog fight stradigy so I can stay alive more. Thanks again for your inputs.

Option 4: Fly a tight curved approach, straightening up just before you reach the deck.

As for fighting off Zekes, the only dogfight strategy I can suggest is to have a strong fighter escort.

if you find yourself alone and you get jumped... dive for the deck and fly as low as you can so that the fighters can't get below you to evade your rear gunner... they'll still probably shoot you down if they're decent but atleast you'll have a chance at them as well... I've survived a couple of attacks like that.
