Great video of an awesome aircraft. Too bad it's in German. I could understand a few tidbits here and there and got a general idea of what they were saying, but I sure would like to know exactly.

At first I presumed it was one of the Stormbirds replica 262s, but the text accompanying the footage said it was "restored". The Stormbird aircraft substitute J-85 engines in cleverly designed fairings to maintain the fidelity of the lines. Besides, a pair of functioning Jumo engines would be rarer than frog hair. Then I revisited http://www.stormbirds.com/ and my suspicions were confirmed. Great to see it in the sky again.

ME-262 makes all the other prop planes during WWII look obsolete and weak http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Terrific - thanks.

Just a thought - the engines are modern. I assume they generate more thrust than the original. Does anyone have the data?

It's great to see this footage at long last.I lived for years in Vancouver only a short drive away from the Stormbirds project and regret never making the trip.

They do but they are balked to prevent them exceeding the VNE of the original, they also have a detent on the throttle to tell the pilot when he is exceeding the wartime thrust levels, so he has more power to be safe with, but can fly it to the wartime limits

Thanks for the links, Tony. TT is just awesome. You too, Tony. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I asked over on the paint forum if someone is doing or would do a skin of Tango Tango....

Ps, when I was in the reserves('79-'82), my duty station was Willow Grove, NAS. The ME 262 the Stormbirds group used for templates was on display there. I always thought is was a mock-up until I read the Stormbirds history....

Pss, Q18: Has the Navy jet been restored to flyable condition?

A18: No. According to the terms of our agreement with the Navy, our sole objective was prepare it for permanent static display. In the fall of 2000, the jet was returned to the Willow Grove Naval Air Station, outside of Philadelphia, PA. The paint scheme applied was the same one this aircraft carried while in Luftwaffe service as White 35.

Thats great, thanks for posting! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I have to admit though, the sounds of those jets don't give me the goose bumps like the big Merlins. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
