Most impressive that.

I like that the RAF are described as "a group of plane enthusiasts." (Bit earlier in the show than is shown in that clip.)

Jolly good show.

With the turning radius of a small moon?

That Veron has a top speed of 54,073 mph but can also be parked in a space smaller than a postage stamp, runs on fairy farts and for every square mile it travels it donates love and spaniels to the needy. It is a worthy opponent to the pillaging Typhoon.

Well of course you don't turn the car around you big dummy.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

we would have to alter the test just a tad don't you know.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

of course we could always use a real hot motorcycle couldn't we? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif No problem with turning radius there huh.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Looks awesome.

Can all modern fighters do that nowadays?

Accelerate straight up right after take off?

I dunno why, but I found that awesome to watch. Looked like it was defying gravity.

the show relys on Jeremy Clark's personality & does well because of it , but he's a waffling plonker

his rambling opinion wouldnt be so bad if the guy could cut a fast lap , but he cant drive to save himself

many have a more then 1 to 1 thrust to weight ratio so yes they can.

Hi mate, the top combat Jets have been capable of something like that in stripped down form for over 40 years.

iirc the English Electric Lightning could accelerate through Mach one whilst climbing vertically. The RAF havent had anything like the Lightning since its retirment until the Typhoon entered squadron service. The F-15, Mig 21, F-16, Su 27 ect could all do that too.

next episode this sunday is supposed to be a special!!!

and the typhoon had no armament and probably as little fuel as possible.

Doesn't really matter.
The EF has a T/W ratio of 1.12 with full tanks.
1.41 with 1/3 fuel.
So it can go vertical after takeoff anyway.
The only planes with better T/W are the F-15 and F-22 btw.

That was really kewl. I was thinking maybe the car would win until the turn around point. When the Typhoon started downhill I knew he would win.

Yep...but also more powerful engines if I remember correctly. They really aren't making up the performance with weight savings with these fighters in general...its all about extra engine thrust.

Fun clip, thanks for posting. I'm glad to see that he's recovered from the crash last year. After hearing about that, I was pleasantly surprised to see him up and about again.

Many jet fighters can climb vertically on takeoff, configuration permitting in some cases. The standard profile for incentive rides in the F-16 was to do a vertical climb to 18,000 feet on takeoff (the highest we could go with incentivees who didn't have their altitude chamber training card.) With a centerline fuel tank, the D model would move right out, but with two wing tanks, it started running out of steam by 18,000 (I've done a total of five incentive rides over the years, and they're as much fun for the pilots as for the passengers.) And unlike the Typhoon, we accelerated down the full length of the runway, about 10,000 ft., vs. the 6000 ft. the Typhoon used. It's got a much better power-to-weight ratio than just about anything else but the F-22 (including the F-15 and F-16), again depending on the configuration.

a topfuel would struggle on the turnaround, and having the engine last 2 runs http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif. dragbikes are slower, with only 1000hp vs 7000-8000hp for a funnycar or proper dragster.

maybe something like http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/topgearlaprecord.html or a f1 car... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
