I'm thinking of making homemade rudder pedals. I bought a pot and I've tried hooking it up to the gameport via the pinouts on the internet. I have Win XP, though, and everytime I have it hooked up it says the joystick is "not connected." I'd prefer not to buy a gameport to usb adapter. Can anyone help?

Simplest way is buy a cheap USB joystick and pull the innards out of it, use one of the pots for your rudders, youll more than likely need a couple of cogs to gear it down but it is quite easy to make, and windows will pick it up as a gaming device, you can then tune it in FB's config.ini

I have a radio shack el cheapo usb adapter to run a regular linear taper 100 pot... works fine and the adapter cost $11 canadian. So why not use an adapter...?

Is your gameport active in device manager?

I bet it isn't. Go into bios and check.
Again I bet you find it turned of in the BIOS.

Let me know.

Here's way to use a cheap joystick (USB) for pedals, without having to mess with wires:

You have to hook at least two pots and four switches to the gameport before windows recognizes it as a gamingdevice.

I have made myself a "trimbox" as addition to pedals that way. I´ve got TM Elite pedals hooked up on that box and have three additional pots as rudder, elevator and aileron trims. The box also holds four switches witch I use to select engines and start.

If you are gonna build your self some pedals ad some more pots and swithes and get some more functionality http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif.

Here's an thread about wiring a home made set of pedals into an X-45 click here (http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=79;t=001780) Edit: the pictures that go with that thread are no longer showing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif but you'll get the general gist of it.

The same approach should work on any stick with a rudder axis and that uses potentiometers.

Of which did you know when Stalin requested these from the UK during the war, Churchil asked the company involved to produce them in a one off XXXXL size so as to make the Russians believe that all us Brits were errrmm well endowed in that area, both of which are true http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I've got some CH pedals that I'm seriously considering widening. I may, I may not. Not sure. I just don't like how close together they are.
