Nice graphics, nice plane. Awesome sound!

If only IL2 had Merlins like that. I'd have the speakers roaring. IL2 may be the ultimate sim, but the sound is yutzville compared to that.

CFS1 had a Merlin DL available that sounded like that. Made the hair on the back of your neck stand up. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Ahem, that's a Griffon :-)

Nice moves, gorgeous sound.

But that's a Griffon, not a Merlin.

A Griffon makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

A Merlin makes an atheist believe in God.

We lack those great sounds in IL2/PF so I really hope or rather demand that we get those sounds in BoB. Best engine sounds I've ever heard http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif. (Apart from the real things http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)

If you had attended the Spitfire 60th Anniversary you would have seen 16 Spitfires (assorted) over Duxford :-) :-)

Lo guys,

I have the realair spitfire, it is an awesome addon for FS9. I am hoping that they produce a 109 series, because that would make for some great mock dogfights and movie making..

this sound is great - it's a shame that we don't get that into FB/PF.

Hope BoB will contain it at least.

The RealAir Spit 14 is a wonderful bird. Well worth the money IMHO. Just heaing that Griffin purrr is worth the price. The plane flys like a dream. The RA super decathalon is also a great ride.

I'm waiting for the WoP to release the P51 package...their bombers are outstanding.

Oh and the CFS3 to FS9...nope. This was one of the stupid things MS did with the CFS3 engine. They made it completly different than the CFS1+2 and the FS series. CFS2 models and planes can be used in FS9, but your going to have to work on the FM for them.

You gotta love that engine sound.. DROOL!!
I wish we had that sound in IL-2.

Enough with more planes... GIVE ME Merlin/Griffon sounds.

NICE!

Sounds very close to a real Griffon Spitfire. Its like a Merlin...except with a very deep and throaty growl. Gotta goto Duxford one day and see a formation of these guys flying around...amazing from the videos that I've seen!

F.XIV on its way...but it probably won't sound like that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Your videos inspired me and I went and purchased the spit from Realair and I am totally pleased with it with one exception.

My engine sound quality does not compare to your clips at all, the engine is not as "throaty" is the best word I can think of, when I play back your tracks it sounds powerful with lots of bass and detail. When in game however its a different story.

I currently have a Live 5.1 Xgamer, Klipsch 4.1 which usually rock the house. In FS9 sound quality is maxed and as far as I now everything is maxed on my card.

Any clues? Is your sound in the clips straight from real air, did you do some sound editing. Probably not I am guessing but I am just trying to figure this thing out.

You made me go and buy it too http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

Like someone else mentioned, your engine sounds are clearer than mine. What sound card are you using, or did you have the bass right up? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif It sounded nice but i thought the graphics compared to Il 2 were not that good, maybe it was something to do with the quality/size of the video.
If they could mix the graphics and sound from one sim to the other it could be wonderful.
I doubt Olegs B o B will have realistic sounds http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Oleg said it was impossible to match sound files with the video.

In the static external it sounds like a looping .wav file. Nice until you've heard it loop a couple of times.

Sounds great with the pitch shifting on the flyby views though.

After reading so much praising of Realair's Spit I decided to buy it, but I am disappointed.

Dont take me wrong, it IS good, better than any other single-engine plane in FS9 (w00t http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif), sounds are good and so on, but the feeling of flying (which is obvious in IL-2 series) is missing. But that isnt maybe their fault, but FS9's.

Also the cockpit is done the way that everything is ok when you are sitting still like in church. But when you move your head with 6DOF, you can instantly see that cockpit designers have done only the necessary and nothing more; missing polygons everywhere. The freeware Bf-108 sportplane and Ju-52's virtual cockpits are for example much more better in that matter. And Freeware Hurricane's Merlin sounds beat Spits Griffon's anytime.

Compared to these Freeware planes found in AVSIM and Oleg's quality in his sims, I feel Realair's Spitfire is way too expensive (25" + VAT = 29.38")

Conclusion is that I respect Oleg Maddox always more when I try other sims.

I love IL2, FB and PF but I haven't played them much lately. They are great flight sims and have far superior flight dynamics than FS, however they are primarily combat sims and eventually I became bored (I will return from time to time no doubt). In fact the original Il2 was the most fun. I enjoyed ground attack in the Il2, something which seems to have been surpassed in favour of air to air combat. I also miss that beautifull Merlin sigh or Griffon roar. One area of IL2 sadly lacking.

The realair Spitfire fired my enthusiasm for FS9 again and with the VFR Scenery, Airports and Mesh upgrades I can take off from Duxford in the Spitfire, fly down to Old Warden for the odd Display and then back again for tea. I've also a nice Piper Cub to practise side slips in and a B26 when I fancy a change.

I think it would be great to combine the flight engine of Il2 with the expandability and sounds of FS9 adding the best features of both.

Im curious... you say you bought the plane? How much? Would they have to create each warbird to place in FS9 (FS2004?)? The engine sounds are great...... I noticed some glitches in some ogfthe clouds but that could havebeen your system... Why cant they just add warbirds to FS9 and create CFS4 from that? Or would they have to totally redo the ground damge modelling? Great videos.......

The model looks pretty fine. I dont actually have FS9 'cos I only really like combat sims. I downloaded a similar plane for the dreaded CFS3 the other day, which almost makes the game worth playing...almost. One thing which is sad is that in both cases the MkXIVe's don not have the 'bubble' canopy - these MkXIV's are the most beautiful of all the Spitfires, so I don't know why they did choose them. If you are interested in getting a similar plane to the one above and you want to improve on the rather disapointing CFS3 then go to www.avhistory.org (http://www.avhistory.org) and download yourself a FREE MkXIVe without bubble canopy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif .

One of the nice features of FS9 is that the user can add their own sound files (as well as a myriad of other things to enhance the immersion level). The ability of the user community to provide realistic effects like that are one of the strong points for that sim.

One day I'd love to see the best features from IL-2 and FS9 combined. Now that would truly be one awesome thing.

depending on who what and where, you could pay up to ten quid for an aircraft (about $15.00).

You'll probably get other stuff in there for that price as well, but basically...

Check here (http://www.abacuspub.com/) for a few examples.

The Realair spitfire XIV comes to $35.22 US! Pretty pricey considering that its only one aircraft.

On top of the price, the default sounds were not as good as the sound in munnst's original clips you will need to download those separately but they are atleast free.

Overall I am happy with the plane and addon scenery but I am still questioning the price. Would I recommend it ? ? ? hmmmm, only if you really fly in FS9 alot.

Thanks for the thread and the movies, plus the other good links some of the other guys have provided.
Always loved the Spit. Youv'e prompted me now, got to get the real air download or maybe the just flight Spitfire package.
Just don't understand why we can't have such a fantastic sounding package with IL2??
I'm not that tech minded, but is it such a big deal with the IL2 team on obtaining more lifelike engine sounds, or are we being misled?

Go to sim-outhouse.com in their download section and get the sound file that he used in the vids. The sound in the vids is not the stock sound that comes w/the Realair Spit.

Man.... I am SO glad I found this sim. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

That makes $70 for a 3 front,5 CD,highly scalable, incrediblyly modelled (graphics,FMs,DMs and AI), 160+ plane sim that gets an unheard of measure of support after release from it's developer look like a real bargain. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

We had a mission in a Bf 110 last night and afterwards had a loooong look around the cockpit and gunners position, wonderful a lovely model.
