Our gallery has been updated with 60 screenshots from Pacific Storm, showcasing this 3D real-time action strategy in the works at Lesta Studio. Described as a mixture of RTS, war-game and simulator, Pacific Storm features detailed 3D models of war machines, including battleships, aircraft-carriers, destroyers, cruisers and rocket cruisers, submarines, torpedo boats, tankers, cargo ships and transports, fighters, attack planes, torpedo-bombers, strategic bombers, reconnaissance planes, land cannons and antiaircraft guns. It also features a wide system of upgrades including the option of producing nuclear or bacteriological weapons, realistic 3D landscapes and weather conditions (mist, storm, rain), and multiplayer via LAN supports battles on the tactical map and in the simulation mode. Pacific Storm will be published by Buka Entertainment in Q3 2005 - don't forget to check out the E3 2004 trailer.

Is this what we are missing from Pacific Fighters and if so, WHY is it in this rts/sim

Yes it sure looks like one, but maybe they call it an 'Evacuator' or something else.

Wait until this game will be published in the USA. As soon, as it will happen, they would have the same problems.

Their are ways around this issue. Don't use the Grumman Avenger name, but ether the US Navy designation or other designation or name. Create the aircraft so they are simular in deminssions and perfcormace, but not exacting replicas, which is the case of any PC game anyway. And make a clear discalmer in the game stating that none of the games aircraft/object are intended to be accurite replicas of any actual product.

This is a description of Wings over Vietnam from the Third-Wire website:

quote:
A jet combat game recreating the intense air combat experience in the skies over North Vietnam from 1964 to 1973. Fly the F-100 Super Sabre, F-105 Thunderchief, A-4 Skyhawk, A-6 Intruder, A-7 Corasir II, F-8 Crusader, or F-4 Phantom II!

Given the FACT that MULTIPLE publishers have included these descriptions in their games, AND CONTINUE TO DO SO, one can only conclude that the story surrounding PF and U.S. A/C is unadulterated hogwash.

Now look at WoV above, it's called a F-100 Super Sabre NOT, I REPEAT NOT, a North American F-100 Super Sabre!

That's where the problem is, you have to call these aircraft by their # designations and nicknames-NOT by the manufacturer!!

Dead on, Sharkey!

The problem is using the manufacturer's registered trade name: Grumman, Republic, etc.

All Oleg and Ubi have to do to make it legal is called it a TBF Avenger WITHOUT the Grumman trade name.

Any company making models (whether airplanes or trains or cars, whatever) seems to know this except Oleg and Ubi. The trade names came off more than a decade ago.

It's as simple as that.

Duh!

Given the FACT, that developers were forced to pay to the Grumman and HAVE lost their profit, it is not.

If they'll do so and all other things, that you suggested, they'll be safe. But as far, as I understand, they don't even have the US or European publisher yet.

It's kinda obvious guys that they flat out dont' want to... they want to work on BoB and PF is pretty much sidelined. It's pretty much been said.

It's not that they can't... there are loop holes around anything, this is one example.. they don't think it's worth their time is all.

I had no idea that B-29's conducted low level ground attack missions with rockets. pfft. that game looks wack.

That game looks like Commanche 4 with planes.

BTW... doesn't anyone realize there IS an Avenger in PF? It just isn't flyable yet.

I don't think the manufacturer trademark name to be the only problem behind... That would have been a problem for the retail box version, but not for later add-ons which are not in a box, and could have been released without the trademarked name. The problem, whatever it is, STILL doesn't allow new US 3D models of the implied manufacturers to be used inside the game, independently of the name being used.

I think its a combination of things. This problem started when Ubi/1:C failed to get Northrop Grumman's permission to use their name on the actual product. NG got wind of this, and realized they had to do something or lose the ability to trademark/copywrite their company name . When NG let their dogs loose on Ubi, Ubi turned on 1:C, making them the bad guy and making 1:C bear the burden of financial responsibility. Now, I would think that as part of the settlement, 1:C/Ubi probably rolled over for NG and agreed that no more NG aircraft or ships could be incorporated into the game, regardless of whether or not the corporate name was used. I would further assume that this left an extremely bad taste in 1:C's mouth, so they decided to get out while the getting was good, and since they probably wanted to avoid further trouble, they figured that they wouldn't incorporate any further aircraft or ships from the US. This whole issue could have been avoided if it weren't for the d*mn packaging, IMO. By putting Grumman's name on the box, Ubi/1:C basically said that it was a Grumman endorsed product, which it obviously wasn't, so they got in trouble.

Then again, I could be completely wrong. And, do remember, this is just my interpretation of whats happened.
