View Full Version : 4.08m - simple ground object

Hi folks,

Just an idea for a really simple ground object, mainly for online use...

A directional sign to sit on the ground and point pilots towards the runway.

Just 'left' and 'right' arrows would be enough, I think - they're only required to show the way from hangars to runway. Landing aircraft just hit 'refly' from the runway.

When you're flying a heavily-laden bomber on a high-realism server, with no external views, it's a struggle to find the nearest runway end sometimes!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Isn`t there already a user-made runway graphic that presents arrows along the runway? In our online Campaign we now have markings to help us know where to go in the desert.

Is there? To be honest I haven't looked - I don't use the FMB often. But this is based on the lack of directional signs (other than putting point-lights into rough arrow shapes) on online servers.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yes there's a giant white circle with arrowhead that you can put on the ground. I used it on the baloon slalom racing course to show the right way round.

Now what I really want is a couple of little soldiers - we have all these trenches but no soldiers to put in them - all the soldiers are attached to bits of artillery. And can you do the damage model so they turn into little skeletons when they're blown up?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

He's asking for something visible from cockpit while on the ground. From the air it's ok, we have that rectangular sheet, red or white and can make arrows with it.
Seeing the little soldiers and especially their skeletons would by awesome. But still we've got the bikers, I'll set them as infantry support in tank battles http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I don`t think they should turn into skeletons. that`s not realistic.

Just have standard standing, kneeling, prone troops that fall dead like the ones running from a truck when hit.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I was joking about the skeletons, and I think Stenka too, I can't believe he's such a bad guy to enjoy watching poor little soldiers skeletons. But anyway having soldiers would be fantastic. Anyone knows if there'll be soldiers in BoB??

You know, that would be nice . . .

You mean you didn't used to line up your toy soldiers, grab a nice big toy tank and go "brrrrruuuuummmm" and squash them all?

....and you didn't build your airfix kits, then insert a banger then light the fuse?

However there are some limits - in Knights of the Sky we will be getting horses both separately and pulling artillery. It's gonna be tricky to hit the carriages without hurting the horses.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

100% realism takes a bit of practice, but you'll get it in the end http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
What you should do is fly over the middle of the airfield first and take your bearings for a landing approach - as simple as that.
Or if you're all shot up and running on one propellor blade... just aim for the control tower and miss it.

Philipscdrw was talking about the taxiing aid signs. Which will help him and others find a way from the spawn point at a parking zone to the runway on DF servers with no external views allowed.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Can I add a request here?
Would it be possible to have a longer section of trench? The current items are excellent, but take forever to use in FMB.

Yeah - now a longer trench saves time, little men that burn to skeletons.... or explode to red pulp are great.... seeing as how you named a city after me in the manchuria map that should not be difficult. They already have a giant arrow on ground to show direction....<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Sure, but skelotons? What for? Imagine you land on your recently bombed airfield and you break your landing gear into one of those skeletons! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Better yet,
1 blue erk,1 brwn erk, each with 1 hand up for slow and the other arm at 90 degree pointing right.
Use the blue erk for LW, if you want him to point to your right then place him back to your aircraft,if you want him to point left place him to face the aircraft.
Possibly mirror images of each would be better, if possible. So 4 figures.
He would have to be "drive through"though.

Great idea (the taxi signs).

Another really easy ground object I'd like to see for DF maps would be a box (use existing crate). The box would be a STATIONARY (static?) OBJECT, not just an "object." It would have a team side, RED/BLUE, so it could be scored as a target. Make a few copies of it. One can be destroyed by a 250lb bomb or bigger (within primary blast radius, whatever that is). One would be destroyable only by a 500lb or bigger, a 3d would require a 1000lb bomb to shack it to take it out, and the last would require multiple 1000s to take out. The idea is some objects to be placed inside other OBJECT targets such that mission builders, particularly for online, can make a target that requires a certain density of bombing to take out. I want the last copy to be set so that a tightly formed flight of level bombers is required to take it out.

Another idea occured to me, though it is likely less easy... we have all seen many planes that were sumbmitted to 1C for inclusion in game that have gone away. We ask, and find out the 3d party model wasn't up to snuff (looked ok in static screens, but the parts don't move right, etc).

How about they take any planes submitted that don't make the grade to fly, even as AI, and make them STATIC planes instead? Sure, we might not get a flyable TBD, or even an AI TBD, but a static one would look cool on the apron as a ground target. Ditto with some others I swear I have seen screenshots of---wasn't there a screen of a Ki-15, for example? Did the kingfisher ever get submitted? There were shots with and without floats...

Oh, I thought of another cool "online object" that would really help DF maps...

We have the target circles we can set... 50% destruction within radius for victory, etc.

How about a new version of that. Instead of "% targets destroyed within radius for victory" it is instead set to "100s of kg of bombs delivered within circle radius for victory." You'd slide the radius, then have a slider for the kgs of bombs required inside the circle. Cooler still if it had a time limit (like all of said bombs must land within 5 minutes to count). That would make a victory condition that would require forming up bombers...

Nice idea, I've also been hoping for larger tarps to cover up bombers and transports...
