Heard and read so many good things about this stick, however I need a little help getting it ready for action...do I need the drivers from MS website or will the disc drivers work?? I run WinXP...also how about some sample configurations plz http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

great stick i got one myself, as far as drivers go the cd u get is fine tho i lost mine and it still works (used stick on diff comp with no driver disc). My only complain about the MSFFB2 is if i ever get alt-tabed for whatever the reason i loose the feedback on the stick and thats rather annoying

If you are playing FB/IL2 and you have to drop to the desktop for something you will lose your FFB until you restart the game. Yeah, its annoying but I can live with it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The loss of FFb when dropping to desktop is the only real issue I ever had with mine. I still have it, but don't use it anymore. when I did I used the hat for view (until I got trackIR). Then afterwards I used it for Prop pitch control and zoom view. The other three buttons on the stick itself I used simply for weapons. #1 for mg, #2 for cannon, #3 for bombs, #4 for rockets. The buttons on the base I used for Flaps (one for up and one for down) and one for gear up/down.

One of the good things about this stick is it was substantial enough to sit in my lap and allow easy access to all the functions while maintaining a center location.

Add a CH Pro Throttle and you'll be "cooking-with fire!"

I have heard of this but never experienced it. I went to the Sidewinder site and DLd the latest drivers.. I have no problems. Ironically enough the only sim my MSFFB2 doesn't work in is CFS3.

Actually, you dont need to restart FB when you alt-tabbed out and lost force feedback. You merely need to restart the mission ( or hit refly in an online df ).

The drivers on the disk (V4.0) should be handy if you want to use joystick profiles, a user on here - PF_Coastie has links to his - a set for FB - in his sig, you might want to check them out. Otherwise I wouldnt worry - I don't use them, profiles that is, (at the moment anyways) with windows XP. When I do however, I have had none of the problems with XP and the v4.0 drivers that some have reported.

However, I do have an older version of the stick (I think? it is the FFB2 with silver buttons not red ones...the difference? I dunno... anyone?)

hope this helps in my somewhat muddled way.... too much coffee today http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

cheers

Ahh... So that's the key! I'll have to try that the next time I forget to load up TrackIR or TeamSound.

Venom:
I've noticed most FFB2-owners don't use the drivers with WinXP, they just plug the stick in and go. Somehow the drivers seem to make WinXP not recognize the stick. I use WinMe though, so I really couldn't say anything. I love my FFB2 though!

The different FFB2's are the ones with silver buttons on the stick and the ones with red buttons on the stick. The red ones are newer, and are supposed to have slightly different software and FFB-engines. Haven't compared them though, my baby's got red buttons.

I don't use profiles, I've got mine configured in-game like this:
1) Machine guns
2) Cannons
3) Rockets
4) Bombs
5) Flaps down
6) Flaps up
7) Gunsight view
8) Toggle zoom
Hat) View (will change this to prop pitch and mixture soon)

Unsure about the numbering on 5-8, gunsight is top left, toggle zoom is lower left, flaps up is top right, flaps down is lower right. This gives me access to all controls I need for combat flying with all others on the keyboard (padlock enemy plane is right mouse button!).

I believe it is the best stick presently available. Thought, however, it was not only discontinued but no longer available retail.

Where did you pick this one up mate?

"I am not a good shot. Few of us are. To make up for this I hold my fire until I have a shot of less than 20 degree deflection and until I'm within 300 yards. Good discipline on this score can make up for a great deal." (Lt. Colonel John C. Meyer, USAAF)

Hi m8, after seeing so many good reviews on the FFB2, I had to find one...you might be forking out some $moola$ though if you want a new one. I just forked over $115.00 here in the US for a new one on ebay. Not sure if your in the UK or not but that shouldn't make any difference. I must tell you though, BE CAREFUL on choosing the right seller. Lots of "liars" out there m8 so make sure of what your gettinghttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif!good luck~

I also loose force feedback when I alt tab to windows. But I loose feedback at other times as well and sometimes randomly which is rather annoying. Do you guys using the MS Profile software to setup which button actives which key on the keyboard or do you map the buttons to controls using the IL2 key setup screen?

I'm thinking my use of the MS Profiler might be causing my additional problems.

Other than thise problem the stick is great http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Snoop, I had this problem a few times also with the random loss of FFB. I traced it to a lack of power from my USB port. I unplugged my usb mouse that was plugged in beside it and it stopped! The loss of FFB when going to desktop is not fixable though. Except for the suggestions above. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sir coastie, is the profiler download from your site something that you created or from another source. It's great, can't wait to try it out on my new stick http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
