Because of issues with colors and artifacting I left the 5.1s and reverted to the 4.1s. That seemed to help my dark water problem. Well, a little while ago I see an icon in my tray that says an ATI update is loading. When it finishes and installs I have a cube shaped ATI desk top icon, and my driver has reverted to 4.9! This sucks since that one gives me dark water too. What is up with this bull****?! Has anyone seen this and what should I do?

Did you install ATI's Control Center Console? After reading so many people's oohs and ahhs about this new thingy I was interested in getting it myself...right up until I realized it required an internet connection. To me, that means if it needs the internet to work, it's intent is to do something more than just make adjustments in my video preferences. I do not let my computer do any auto updating. I want to know what goes onto my hard drive and when it does it. It's no inconvenience to me to get into a regular habit of checking for, say, anti-virus updates and such. As you've seen, the "latest drivers" don't necessarily mean they are the greatest for all applications. I uninstalled the ATI CCC and went back to Control Panel. I decide what goes onto my hard drive, not some company's slick interface.

Go to Check Six France, and get a utility called "ATIoglxx.zip". I used to have black water till I tried this, now its good on a 9700pro, and xp2800 Barton Cpu.

Ibis, one great thing about the internet, if you're having a problem, chances are somebody, somewhere has had it too and has probably generated a forum thread. I've been able to resolve numerous issues with computers over the years by finding answers from the community when the vendor couldn't (or wouldn't). You might peruse the ATI-related forums at http://forums.guru3d.com/ or http://www.rage3d.com/board/ and do a search for your problem.

As for HL2, be aware that it requires an internet connection just to play the game...even offline!. Apparently this is an anti-bootleg measure Valve concocted and you can't blame them for wanting to protect their property rights, but I've read many accounts of people returning the game because they either didn't have and internet connection (shouldn't need one if you're not going to do multiplayer, IMHO) or didn't like the idea of a vendor's dictates. I understand the need to protect intellectual property in which there has been huge investment in time and money, but they've got to find another way...a way that balances their own security needs and the rights of the consumer. Failing that, the only other options are to either give-up a piece of your rights (bad for you, IMHO) or don't buy the product (bad for them). I lean toward the latter. I can live without their product and if more people decided they could too, you can bet your bippy developers would find a better way.

As for HL2 - it's true! I had to wait two months to get internet just to install the **** thing! It sucks!

Allright goddammit, I have about had it. I went into add/remove programs and checked all the options that would prevent thses ****ing ridiculous updates from auto downloading but it seems to make no god**** difference. After going thru all the trouble of going back to 4.1 it auto updates to 4.9! What a crock of ****. ATI sucks. I am sick and god**** tired of this.

I have been using the CCC for several months now and it never auto updated anything. (I also cannot find any setting that indicates that either)
The only way I get a new driver version is when I install it.
I find it rather odd that a display driver automaticly downloads and updates it's version without you knowing about it since it requires un-installing the previous drivers, reboot and then install the new drivers and reboot again to activate then properly.

And instead of loosing your temper and act like your pants are on fire you might want to calm down and ask for help in a normal way in the Community help forum.

Make sure you extract your dxdiag and post it together with your problem.

PS: Add/Remove programs does not delete the ATI files and folders from your drive so when you reboot your PC Windows automaticly seeks out and install the drivers again.

Go to Driverheaven.net and download and install DriverCleaner.

Then go to Add/Remove progrmas, un-install the Catalyst drivers, when asked to reboot klick no and then open DriverCleaner and clean all the ATI Catalyst files and folders from your drive.

Only then will you be able to install the Catalayst drivers 100% clean and the version of your choice.

I'm with Nubarus--never seen an autoupdate feature from ATI. You sure this is not coming from Windows Update? Is that set to automatic install?

Sorry for losing my temper guys, but after a week of nothing but overtime at work and then having to deal with this during the limited flying time I do have I was just really frustrated. I went in and checked my Windows settings and made sure that it said to let me know before installing an update. I thought however that I had done this earlier when it went ahead and put in the 4.9 over my 4.1. I did some flying tonight with the internet connection unplugged. I guess I'll try it hooked up again tomorrow.

I got the coupon, sent it in as instructed but when I tried to download from Steam I got the message
Steam has detected that your copy of ATI Bundle has already been registered to another Steam user. Your product's CD-Key (the number printed on the CD case which you were asked to type in after installing the game) matches one already in our database.

The CD-Key you entered is: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You will not be able to play ATI Bundle unless you provide an unclaimed CD-Key.

How the hell can I supply that when they have given it to someone else,Do they REALLY think
I'll buy their stinking product now, they must be joking.

Dude, Valve has suspended some 20-30000 accounts recently due to piracy and other ellegal stuff. Some of the genuine software owner were affected as well. There's a great deal about that on their homepage, as well as alist of FAQs. If i'm not mistaking they explain what to do if you have an original game but cannot register it. You should definitely check it out!

Hi.

I tried the HL2 demo, and seeing that I had to be connected to the internet to even play . . . well, my pov is that they are making you ask permission to play the game on your own machine, and that after you paid for the game, and HL2 isn't cheap at the moment. I want to make this perfectly clear: When all pc games go this way I will stop gaming.

You must wait, yes, "2 weeks" to get a new HL2 CD Key if yours is already in use.

Steam comes out of Half Life 2 players' ears

If you sell your HL2, you must Pay a 10$ fee to have the CD Key "transferred" to another Steam account...

I can get no sense from their "customer support"
Can't talk to a human and computer generated responses have you going round in ever decreasing circles, which is what is supposed to happen it seems untill the disatisfied customer disappears up his own six thereby eliminating any proplem for ATI. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
Steam supply an email form to fill out with required fields one of which is the email address
to send it to but "catch 22" there is no address that I can find. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
