View Full Version : What's the deal with ROSS squadrons pings?

I don't want to upset anyone here, but I'm about to the point of boycotting organized events with these people. Their pings are collectively so bad, they use it as an advantage.
They warp around like a Rodenbury starship, so they can't be shot. While we appear to 'stand still' for them so they can redbarn shoot us up at will.
I got shot by one guy's bullets -- his ping was so bad I couldn't even hear his bullets hitting my plane. Not sure if this is a new sound patch issue or what, but I was fairly upset.

Grrrr.

I know your pain, just one person with a bad ping can ruin a good coop. The server has the option to set max pings so I dont know why some people dont use it.

Someone will post here about being on dial up and being picked on for it but be fair guys dont join a game when your ping is much to high it spoils it for the rest of us.

A requirement on the ROSS squadron recruiting application form is 56k and you must live in siberia. I feel bad for them they constantly get autokicked in many servers and they seem like very friendly good mannered people.

One way to prevent this from happening when flying any online coop is to ask the host if they use autokick settings. That alone will remove problem pings from the game.

I have wondered about that too. Not just ROSS, but Russian in general. Britain, West Europe is usually good, but invariably Russians have bad ping.

Does anyone know info about telecom in Russia? Like, how easy is it to get broadband there?

ROSS are an honorable squadron who do remarkably well on really crappy eastern block dialup connections. Cut them some slack.

I've had the priviledge of flying with them on a number of occasions and would never hesitate to fly with them again. While it looks from our high speed cable/xDSL point of view like they have all the advantages, the game looks at least as unpredictable from their side of the show. It's a credit to their skill that they get any kills at all.

One of the ROSS squad regularly flys on my DF servers. ROSS_KlanB is very good with the P40, is always polite, and is a team player. Frankly, when I'm in a tight spot I'm glad he is on my side...

I think that we in the west tend to forget just how good we have it. I do understand about the ping/packet loss problem. It affects us all from time to time. But I also understand that this isn't a life or death thing.

I dont think one group should be singled out but it should be a unwritten rule not to try and join a coop when your ping is over 1 second http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

I'am in Australia and often I wont join a server for that very reason, even with my cable connection it's just a distance/location thing.
