Hi F19,

Sorry but I don't agree. It was made in 1969 so it has its limitations.

Here's a link:

Thanks for headsup!recorded it and just finished watching it.Its a LOT better than I expected at least a 6-7 out of 10 if not 7-8 .Come to think of it ,its possibly the BEST WW2 aviation film maybe edging Dark Blue World.OK so its a bit corny in places (some of those Luftwaffe fighter 'jocks' seem very 'dandy' types !)but well worth buying ,let alone watching on TV.

I watched it,even though I have it on DVD. For the time, its a great movie, and without it,you would not see half the Spits flying today.IMHO this film kickstarted the warbird scene.

i've got it on DVD, a great movie indeed http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif. Ranks right up there with TORA TORA TORA, and Midway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. Its a shame that you don't such great movies nowadays http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Top film! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Also you can visit Duxford and walk in the footsteps of Kenneth Moore and see the parade ground where Susannah York gets the bad news about Christopher Plummer. (Plus, in the film, you get to see her wearing the "webbing", that plus top class dogfights, what more do you want!!!) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Yeah I really enjoyed it .Mind you you could start a whole thread on the innaccuracies -disregarding obvious things like Merlin engined Spits with Hispano cannons,German army in US trucks etc theres two funny mistranslations in the subtitles

1 At one point a Luftwaffe fighter pilot is quoted as saying "Tomato Heinz" when any BOB WOV player knows its "Tomato 1" (Ein/Einz -sp)

2 Another time in a similar situation a Luftwaffe pilot says "Indiana" when of course its "Indianer" (Indians -what they called Allied Fighters)

Bet theres some other real howlers if you study it.....

Top film, best WWII Air combat film bar none.
Didn't notice any Hispano cannon Spits though? Sure your not thinking of the "Pearl Harbour" movie?

Yes, this movie does contain some errors but that said, it is way more accurate - historically and technically - than most other war movies. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Inclined to agree with that. 12 O'Clock High was pretty good though, as was Dark Blue World.

I think he's referring to the 109's with RR engines. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah of course I meant the Spanish 109s -a Merlin engined ,hispano armed Spit wouldnt be all that strange). My bad!

Could do with a good remake. Not to take away from the original, but concidering what films have been, I think this has been over looked.

Just my Tu'pence

I'd be worried about who to trust to produce a good re-make. It could easily end up with the benefits of CGI and other modern technical wizardry but still be a dog, like a number of other relatively recent releases I can think of.

One thing's for sure, you'd never get all those real (or 'near real') planes up in the air again. The original was unique for this and other things that just won't ever be seen again.

The film was a criminal act in one respect, the destruction of an original hangar on what was the most historical airfield remaining from that era..... It still rankles amongst preservation bodies that it was allowed........
