So let me get this right - I have two options:

a) Play in "Kiddie cam mode"TM and spoil any possibility of immersion.

b) Play fixed Cam and never be able to review events or see how or what killed me.

OH I just love choice and the freedom it brings. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Hehehehe... you know the phrase, be careful what you wish for? You wanted realism.... the boats that got sunk in WWII didn't get to rewind and see what sunk them either. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Realism wish granted! Doh! To be honest though.... who knows....none us have it yet..... and UBI had to make those vidoes some how. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Not intirly true, first you have a periscope to see the action.

Secondly you can surface and use your deckgun with full visebility.

Possible 3rd, when you have the luck of seeing surface warfare between battleships, you might watch the action from your tower, if the ships are to busy with eachother.

Yeah, there's some truth to that. However, let's face it, if you're a real hardcore realism fan like me, the pretty graphics are only a tool that help you gain that immersion factor. We're not in it for all those pretty pictures anyway, unless they just happen to be visible from the periscope or from the conning tower.

Besides, if you really must see all the drama up close and personal, there's an easy way to do it: take a test cruise to shake out all those nuts and bolts. Do this cruise on arcade mode, take a tour of the convoy lanes, pop into New York Harbour, get into a battle, and see all the game's chrome and neat effects. After that, it'll be out of your system (after all, pretty graphics can only take you so far) and you can get back to the real enjoyable part of the simulation.

Well, I was going to attempt to play SHIII on full-real with no externals or "action cam", but with no replays I might reconsider. I'm not that interested in looking at the graphics, but I'd like to be able to review my missions. I'd like an opportunity at seeing what I did wrong, notice how badly a particular torpedo missed, and that sort of thing.

I wonder if a Replay option will ever be made available...
