Hi everyone http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I just wanted to say that at the grand ole' age of 45, my wife and I are purchasing our first (probably last as well) home. After a lifetime of renting we will finally be in our own house! I know that this is very OT, but I really wanted to share my happiness with my friends here at the forum.

http://server3.uploadit.org/files/tsisqua-HouseResize.JPG

Nice yard in the back for the kids to play in. A garage for all my musical endeavors, as well as a place for me and my new neighbor, a colleague from work and a fellow flight simmer, to build a cockpit.

I am very excited, as is my family. The closest that we have come to owning a home was a trailer that we bought while I was in college, and we had to sell it because we didn't have a place to park it at the time. Things are going to be tight for a couple of months as we get settled in, but I can live with that.

The down side is that there is no high speed internet available at the new place, so I will probably be doing most of my posting from work when I am able. I simply can't bear 56k dialup after having a 3 Meg pipe available for roughly the same price. High speed cable will most certainly be along eventually at this location. I am still not complaining, especially after reading BlairGowrie's post about the thousands that he will have to spend to get high speed.

Thanks for indulging me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Congradulations. There is nothing like owning your first home. A place where you can do what you want and no landlord to say you can't. And one more great feeling is when you make the last payment and it truly belongs to you.

Is anyone else suddenly getting the impression that if it had required living in a tent so Tsisqua could keep flying IL2 thats what would have happened? Good Going Mrs. Tsisqua!!!!! Got that guy in line finally now get him cutting the lawn!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Teasing Tsisqua, seriously conratulations, I hope the feeling of "your home" washes over it and wraps you and your family up like a warm blanket...A proud day for you indeed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Yup, it's true! It was the Mrs. that really took us all to this point. I wouldn't trade her for anything! (Well, maybe an advance copy of BoBhttp://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

Congrats mate!

Financial folks tell us that owning a home is very important for most people. Besides all the personal reasons, it provides you with equity and leverage in many other financial endeavours.

In fact, I was just reading an article recently here in Canada that the folks who are doing well financially also own their own home, whereas renters were usually not as well of with regards to savings and investments.

Furthermore, something like only 3-5% of folks actually lose their homes, though you would think this is much higher given media coverage.

Tact - "proud homeowner of 7 sevens" - S!

Cool a scanner on the floor...... is that so when you crawl in drunk as a skunk at 2 am, you can drop your head on it and wing off a quick picture so you can see how bad you really were when you get up http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Congratulations!

I have that same house here in Atlanta as a rental property only it's empty right now so I'm carrying two mortgages http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

On mine though, the garage is brick and the rest of the front is siding, the opposite of yours.

I am truely happy for you and the Mrs.

tsisqua
05-06-2005, 08:44 AM
Yak,

For all of these years, I have been throwing every monthly cent away by renting. All of that money is lost, whereas what I pay on this house, minus interest, is an investment. You are 100% correct.

Owlsphone,
Thanks Buddyhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Waldo, all work has been contracted and paid for as part of our loan. The Mrs. should be fairly quiet for a year or two . . . except that lawn thing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Red,

This little home would make a great rental for a young family finding their feet. I wish I could afford about two more of them http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I could charge reasonably and still make money from it.

Congrats m8 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Anyway, for the internet connection, have you tried something like cellphone connection (using CDMA phone)? I dont know how it works there but in here you can get connection three times faster compared to the dial-up with just a small increase in payment.

Just a thought http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Cheers tsisqua...it looks to be a pleasant home in a quiet, rural area.

Mine is near a rather large, commercial airport so I am properly envious.

Hey Jurinko I have a similar setup to yours but i put my X-45 stick on the left.. just above my throttle since I only use it as a button bay and it is easier to use my left hand than my right when flying..

A bit late, but a hearty congratulations to you and your family!!!

I'll never forget the feeling of my first home.....an 800 sq. ft. house in a not-so-great neighborhood, but at least it was ours.

It is truly something special and I'm very, very happy for you!!!

BTW....you're gonna love the tax writeoffhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As for your surprise to so many responses to your good fortune....you shouldn't be. IMHO, I see it as a great indication of the respect the community has for you that is well earned.
