I recently bought IL-2 Sturmovik Series: Complete Edition before realising i should have got IL-2 Sturmovik 1946. So, if I download the patches up to patch 4.08m will i get the same content as i would have if I'd bought the actual game.

I've already bought IL-2 Sturmovik Series: Comlete Edition so does that mean i only need to download patches 4.05m and up if i want the extra content.

sorry... the others are not patches - 4.05, 4.06, 4.07.
To be up to speed you need to get "1946" or you could just play what you have which does have a lot of content.
I think "46" is going for about $20 and is worth double that IMHO.

No, you can't download them, you have to buy them.
Except for 4.08m, it can be downloaded.

So since I have IL-2 Sturmovik Series: Complete Edition do i need to download the patches 3.03m-4.04m

No, I do not think so.

Complete Edition is 4.04m, if I remember correctly.

Once you've installed it, and start it, in the bottom left of the start-screen, there's a version number, in Red. Check what version it is...

Sorry buddy, I know where your coming from but unfortunately if you want to play online and want the extra content then there is no way to finagle it, you'll just have to buy 1946 and add the 4.08 patch. I wish they would remove the older versions from the market, it is kind of a slap in the face to buy a game just to find out you need to buy it again if you want everything. Now of course this wasn't done on purpose, there is a very clear evolution to the game and it's versions, but it would be nice to remove the older ones so this doesn't happen.

See if you can get it exchanged for 1946 by your retailer.

I bought it on Ebay last week and I haven't recieved it yet. I should be getting it monday. So I can't exchange it.

I have seen 1946 for sale for about $60.

Walmart lists it for less than $20. Sixty dollars is ridiculous if that is American dollars.

I'm Australian and $60 still is ridiculous. I guess i should research a game a bit before buying.

I just looked around at a few Australian online game stores, and I only found one for $76, which is outrageous. The cheapest I've seen was a listing on ebay.com.au, which is $50 +10 shipping, which might be the one the OP saw.

That sucks for our friends in Australia. Are video games always so costly there?

The only thing I can suggest to the OP is to play the complete edition and see if you like it. If you get hooked, start saving up some money for it. There is plenty of planes, maps, and offline campaigns to keep you occupied until then. Also, you might find a deal later on. Good luck!

Is there people who play the merged FB, AEP, PF online instead of 1946

All of the servers that show up on Hyperlobby are using 4.08m.

I'm Australian and I've '46 recently (last two weeks sometime) for about $49, can't remember where but it would have been either EBGames, Game Traders or Harvey Norman. I may have seen it as cheap as $35 in the last 3 months, also at one of those stores.

It's not as big a difference as it sounds, AU$ is worth less than US$ so most of the difference is exchange rate. Current exchange rate is add about 7% to US prices to get Australian but that's the best it's been for about 25 years. A couple of years back it was more like add 30% to US prices to get AU$ price.

Differences larger than that are partly down to the AU market being much smaller (20M Aussies v. 300M US) and what is justified as "shipping cost" but in the case of locally published discs is actually market gouging.

I feel your pain dude- i'm in Australia and i have learned this lesson before.
All i can recommend is look around for a good deal on the 1946DVD (check your local game stores- i saw it recently for $30 in **** Smith's in Batemans Bay).
Once you have the game and go online you wont regret the extra expense- but be prepared for the evil experten who will show no mercy. On the other hand, there is also a very large community of devotees to this game who will give support to those who are new to it.
The learning curve for this game is steep, and there are many online who have thousands of hours of virtual experience.
Welcome.

Another year or two of US borrow and spend it will be subtract about 10%-20%, never worry about that!

I've heard that on a TV show the other day. They could -say- the word p-e-n-i-s but when they
said d--k it got bleeped out! That was on Louis Blacks Root of All Evil show.

Talk about PC head standing!

No, the original game ("IL2 Sturmovik") is not compatible with the rest of the series.

Even with the sequel "IL2: Forgotten Battles" you can only move up to 4.04m by purchasing "Aces Expansion Pack" and "Pacific Fighters" as add ons then adding patches. By far the quickest and cheapest way to get to the current version is to purchase "IL2 1946" which contains all the content from those three titles plus two further add-ons all in one package.

magu55555, as much as it sux, you won't be very compatible with many people online with the version you got. You really should try to find 1946 for the best online experience.

Version 4.0x is still a great game just not for online.

There's actually a 2 for $50 deal for certain games that's going on in EBGames and it includes 1946, that's how I got mine. Too bad I couldn't find anything else I wanted so I just picked up Splinter Cell: Double Agent with it since it had the highest normal price. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif Oh well, you might find something else that you like.

Better hurry though, I think their trying to get rid of those games (and being quite succesful).

Just so everyone knows I have the first IL-2 Sturmovik. Anyway, I tried to install Complete Edition on my computer and I couldn't. I was forced to install on my **** computer and I'm now bombarded with lag. I think it wouldn't install because it is a DVD-ROM and I have a CD-ROM drive. Can anyone clear this up?

P.S. I know this isn't related to the title of this thread.

CD player cannot read DVD.
DVD player can read both.
