I am flying IJA campaign currently and I have achieved rank of Sho-sa and recieved my 7th medal/award "Nambu Holster".
Campaign started from first date available at lowest rank possible, all other campaign settings on default.

150 aerial kills, 3 ground kills, 121 sorties, 37000+ pts, jul 1945 -- achieved so far... but no katana for me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

So what's the deal?

You might have to start with a higer rank. Samurai swords were only for samurai families, if I am correct.

I guess then, coming from common plebes, I wont see that award no matter what I do http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

You are right however I will start my next IJN campaign with highest rank possible (D3A campaign). Will see then http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Awards are based on kills or points or the combination of the two. I have never gotten more than 4 or 5 awards in a campaign, so I am not sure what you need to do to get all 8. Rank should not matter at all.

Roger that @ZC. But funny thing is that I have earned rank of Sho-sa and "Nambu Holster" all the way back in 1942 (I believe that I had at that time around 20000 pts and around 60 aerial kills).
So I have literally played half of the campaign for 7 awards and five ranks (from Jun-i up to Sho-sa).

It certainly isn't some kind linear progress... nowhere near.

As far as I know as earlier you start a campaign (1941) the most probable to get all the awards is.
Just because the awards system is hardcored in game and the Japanese awards are given according to the German way (in game's logic not in reality).
For example if you start a German 1941 Campaign you tend to get awards sooner than in a later one, which is historically correct.
I suspect the same happens with the Japanese Campaigns, which, on the contrary, is not that historically correct.
Just a speculation though... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks @ E. I have finished my IJA campaign but unfortunately I didn't received that award.
