This was possible in Red Baron II, to strafe whole companies of little soldiers running across no-man's land, and it wasn't 'sick'. It was fun, it was a game. You can actually strafe troops running from trucks and kill them in this sim.

As sick as strafing a pilot in his chute, or seeing his plane explode as it bails (because of YOUR bullets even if you don't strafe him) and see him hang dead in his chute. How about blowing up cargo ships or blasting that Tiger or Su-152 hidden in a villiage and blowing it up with the farmhouses next to it. <---This example to mean all sides.

50 cals were perfect for killing japanese fishermen...and then some

I think I read somewhere a long time ago that the game losses its PG-13 rating adding that.

If that is the case, we have all lost because this is not a game for 13 year olds. Average Il2 player = 35, I bet. Maybe older.

same with the blood in the cockpit..whcih can still be toggled in the original il2...pretty cool..

but i agree with u./..make the game more mature...

:O i hope the dads that teach their kiddies to fly the game wont mind...

No better than German , Japanese, Soviet, etc weapons which were used for the same purpose. I find it silly that someone would play this game and post on these forums and pretend to be ignorant of the fact that all of these weapons were designed for the sole purpose of killing the enemy. Strafing enemy soldiers as they try to cross a bridge is exactly the thing that any air force would (and did) use their aircraft and weapons for.

Well said... if this is modelled in game, it would be an excellent addition to any mission.
Flying low and spot troops in the open, advancing across country.. and as you throw your aircraft into a tight turn to line up and engage, they go scurrying for cover in ditches and treelines!.. Bearing in mind they would have the ability to return fire with small arms.. Would be very immersive.. (and not sick!)..

If you have anti-American agenda (i.e. B-29 and Ma Deuce comments), please grow up already. I think it takes a mental midget to think that American weapons didn't kill people just because we were on the commonly accepted "right" side of the war.

Now pardon me if I find irony in that someone who has a signature which, at least to me, seems to glorify the Stuka, would protest something which that aircraft was designed to do.

after all the game is based on the IL2 witch is a ground attack plane. all u would be doing is supporting your troops http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

Need horses and dogs too! Complete with a complex DM, so you can maim them in many ways.

In this campaign you destroyed so far:

34,765 infantry.

Good work, your commander is pleased!

I wonder what might happen if you bail out over them though. Player Killed I think.

It'd be a nice addition, but then RTS's have trouble generating thousands of infantry even in quite simple terms, do they not? I'm just guess though. Maybe we'd get a token showing, but as the BoB was practically Air-only, it'll possibly be seen as wasted time and effort.

About the ESRB rating: they always aim for PG 13 or lower, to get a "family friendly" market apparently, which is annoying - generally the parents that will allow Il-2 or Rogue Squadron will allow F.E.A.R, and those that don't allow games like F.E.A.R will cry and scream about teaching violence even in games like Il-2, so go figure. And that's aside from the older audience.

I dont recall insulting any of the two. I only said something about an american bomber and an american weapon. Do those two things represent the core of america?

You sounded like I insulted them and by that insult the very foundations of america - which was never my intention.

my god, im sorry LStarosta...will you forgive me? ive become a bitter person...you dont mind if i call you luke right?

sorry for the hijack, im all for infantry on the ground

I didn't say you did have such an agenda. Maybe you didn't realize the word "if". I was merely covering my bases. It kind of struck me funny that you would ramble about the B-29 and .50 cal when we're talking about strafing infantry.

You can still grow up, though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Chuck Yeager strafed German civilians fleeing from Dresden---under orders. His take at the time: "We better win this war." The Germans strafed civilians and soldiers in the Blitz heyday with complete abandon. Of course, nobody admits to doing it now. Sakai's fighter unit in New Guinea was notorious for strafing Allied pilots in their chutes. Never see anything about it in the Japanese accounts. Infantry are fair game. Everybody is fair game. That's war. Why Sherman said it was hell. In the Korean War a U.S. B-29 on a low level strafing joyride went after a single North Korean soldier on a bike in the most lurid example of overkill I've read about.
