I personally use have everything turned off (i.e. on the easy setting) except for
1) Realistic Gunnery
2) Clouds
3) Realistic Landings
4) Limited Fuel
5) Vulnerability
6) No instant success

I realise this is probably makes the game a tad easy for the hard core mobs but I find it gives me most enjoyment. Curious to know what others use.

I usually fly with all flight and weapons physics turned on, but when online I'm not picky about view settings. If the server allows external and no cockpit views, I'll use them, but I quite enjoy flying servers where they're not available.

I find that flying without torque, wind, stalls etc leads to a lack of challenge and avoided those settings right from when I first started in flight sims.

Full switch online, I leave the minimap path on offline because I can never remember what the waypoints are supposed to be.

"Full Realism"? You still can't groundloop . . . http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif . . . I would bet that most simmers wouldn't be able to get a real taildragger off the ground.

Just a thought. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Hi mate,

My personal online preferences,

Icons, Minimap, Speedbar, External views and
Padlock "on", CEM "off" and all other setting "on".

I only fly on servers with these, or close to these, settings. My interest also being in Co-op servers rather than dogfight servers.

Full switch all the way! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif Took a couple of frustrating weeks to get used to the last few realism switches (no external views, no minimap icons, cockpit always on) but then the game just got better! I'm still a bit noob-like and my gunnery sucks, but I wouldn't trade any realism for easier kills.

Gotta love those full-real servers when you can find them! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

full difficulty + padlock...

on my current japanese campaign, i left the speedbar, as the instruments are placed out of front view on the zero, so i can't have a glance at them.

Full switch on the physics and weapons part.
But on the view side, I like everything on. Of-line I use the padlock-view very often. Once you get the feeling of it, it's great (This feeling dates back from Falcon, man that padlock was great). I also like to view other aircraft during transition (kill the time) and to be frank, I need the velocity-thing during carrier landings http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

My off-liner preference (never flew on line) = realistic.
+ external views (because I fly with auto pilot during transfers and I spend time viewing other planes), never use it when auto pilot is off
+ way points on the map (because of auto pilot) excep for the few missions I make with the detailed map on my knees.

Me and the few friends I fly with online do co-ops of our own design. We use so-called "full real" except that we allow:

Padlock (we like the way it works and don't have TrackIr)
Mini-map Path (not all aircraft have RMIs)
External Views (we like the scenery and ability to watch other players if we're downed)

We don't use icons of any type (player or map). These settings work well for us, enhance our flight experience and we don't argue with anyone who doesn't want to fly the way we do. It's nice to have options, isn't it?

What I will be using as difficulty settings depends big deal on my current mood.

Although for over 2 years now I use full switch exclusively when playing career. For everything else it depends on my mood.

All flight/weps parameters engaged.

As far as views I prefer either:

A-No icons
Flex pit (meaning open or closed)
padlock
externals

B-Icons
locked pit
flex padlock (meaning either engaged or not depending on host)
externals

Either one of the above are fine with me.... in oipen pit servers I fly with the pit on and off depending on circumstances. Offline I usually fly with a closed pit and no icons.....
I really dont particularly care for the locked pit no icon,no padlock,no exgernals servers.... at least not for very long. It can be fun for a while but I am not that much of a purist. I want to have fun.... and that means flying with the members of the 99th and being able to find te enemy and engage him. I really dont buy that "full real" elitism... not saying that anyone in this thread is an elitist.. but they do exist in the community. For me the intolerables are map icons and open pits with icons. Thats just a fun killer for me.... even with icons I prefer the limited icons... not necessarilly friendly or enemy only but just limited in the distance at which they appear. I hat having to fly practically on top f a target before I can make it out.

I'm a "full-real" elitist, and proud of it. Online or off, it's the only way I find it challenging (the challenge is what makes the game fun), or historically accurate, and anything less feels like cheating. Offline I have externals on, but that is to look at my pretty plane, not to track the enemy with.

I don't feel "elite" for playing full-switch. I do feel good that I've "accepted the challenge" of all the realism offered in this sim. For me, the joy is in really convincing my brain I'm a small plane in the lonely skies over a vast countryside, fearing who is lurking behind those clouds. Losing the icons and minimap really pushes that feeling over the top.

IL2 - scariest game I've ever played!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I usually fly (offline) with all the difficulty settings on except for icons, and even then they are limited to 800-500m or so.

When I do bother to fly online its usually on Warclouds or Spits vs 109s or similar, so pretty much the same settings.

QMB I usually use some externals, just so I can marvel at all the pretty aircraft models.

Full real except external views on is what I use.
