This guy is firing a .50 caliber round at an iron plate target and experiences a ricochet. The link below is a Live Leak video.

First off the idiot was using a tracer round that I can assure you was well under powdered to go through the iron plate. Second thing is the idito is shooting at what looks to be a 100yd range and is meant for .22 rifle or sight in's. That rifle had no business being shot there and NEVER shoot tracer rounds at a metal/steel/iron target especially that is not angled. What a complete and utter moron !

Everything you say is true; .....but in all the years I have been dealing with weapons, I have never seen a ricochet come straight back to the shooter!

Pretty amazing!

And how do charicters such as these get access to such high power weaponry? Someone isn't paying attention!

Well, ...........I have always subscribed to the point of view that "Hits count and noise doesn't!".

These guys clearly couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if they were inside it! They would probably be MORE dangerous with a smaller, more practical weapon.

Yep a tracer definitely. He was far too close by the way.

Seen that, been through that ,although i was never hit. Tracers can be very dangerous when they ricochet or even just break apart when hitting something pretty solid and send glowing shrapnels into all directions. Usually they dont come directly back at you and are more a danger for people standing next to the target on the left or right. They can fly up to 100 meters after deflecting from the target and can fall on your head when they come down.

In that case it was just a shrapnel that came back. Luckily for him it had already lost 80 % percent of the initial speed as it hit his head.

Here is a video of G36 firing in Afghanistan. Its NV so you can see the tracers very good. One or two of the tracer rounds break apart and you can see the shrapnels flying.

700 meters , from the hip by the way http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

While I was doing my recruit training for the RAN, we did several days at a firing range.
We learnt about prone position firing, kneel position etc.
On our last day we went onto the practice range and lined up on our individual marks, I was in position 12.
We were all asked to go through the motions as taught as we were ordered in turn.
When we finished our 20 rounds we stood, cocked the rifle and held it open for the instructor to inspect the chamber, then took two paces back and stood at attention while the rest finished.
At the end, the drill instructor read our scores out loud, he got to 12 (me) and in a loud voice said "Lane 12, fix bayonettes!"
I suppose that meant I missed everything

Hum, guns and population control. As the joke goes: Being pro population control, maybe I should change my pro gun control stance to anti-gun control? Sure would make population control easier, at least for the no so bright types.

Hum, guns and population control. As the joke goes: Being pro population control, maybe I should change my pro gun control stance to anti-gun control?

Now I like that! .....That's funny!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

On a serious note, I am pleased to see other people voicing a "Pro Population Control" viewpoint.

Between 1950 and now, the population of the planet increased 2 times: ......It is predicted to double again by 2080!!

In the very near future, it will be over-population that renders our climate unlivable (and destroys us as a species).

Compared to that threat, the issue of Gun Control is "small potatoes"!

klcarroll :

Do we really want to discuss this !! I lived in the wealthy state in the country, and for twelve years had to watch my tax dollars washed away because of fraud to our ever popular welfare system. Nothing better than working 60hrs a week and being in an almost 40% tax bracket to have section housing next door to you, and 10 kids and their 15yo having kids, driving around their "pimped out rides" and using food stamps. I am all for helping the needy... but we must "really" start to stop all this nonsence in this country. I for one am not ashamed to say I amso very glad they rejected that horrid Amnesty bill they tried to pass no matter what they wanted to call it.

Unless you were kidding about that... If that was the case...Im the kid of guy that takes things serious unless otherwise noted.

Hey Fritzy...It's not off topic...Im adding my feeling to what he wrote.

comanderFritz

still doesnt make much sense population controll and mexican controll are two completely different things. i am as right wing as the next guy and didnt like the bill for more reasons than one but it shouldnt be brought up on this thread, alittle off topic. i could have gone onto a rant about how most gun control laws are pointless but i deceided against it. be carefull or this thread might be closed.

gsc67
07-01-2007, 03:35 PM
Mexican !! What the hell are you talking about now ! Im not blaming a specific race of people !

comanderFritz
07-01-2007, 03:38 PM
that would a be a nationality my friend not a race.

gsc67
07-01-2007, 03:41 PM
No... What you are trying to say are Latinos / Hispanic ! That is a race...Has nothing to do with Mexico. There are no Mexicans in CT. maybe .5%

comanderFritz
07-01-2007, 03:50 PM
why then are you complaining about the bil when there are no mexicans around you. i do agree with you especaily about the people who live of welfare i in fact believe welfare should be mostly eliminated but what i dont understand is why you brought it up it has almost nothing to do wiht population control

gsc67
07-01-2007, 04:00 PM
taxation on the people in a indirect savings. Not only in CT. It is a Federal issue. The S/SW border states flip the bill as well and they have kids ontop of kids. 12 million will quickly turn into 36 million and then 4 fold that in three generations if we keep it as it is now. Nevermind we open it to the families for a free for all. That was the point I was trying to make.

klcarroll
07-01-2007, 04:08 PM
My ONLY point is that we have to get the population of the planet under control, or we are going to die under the pressure of our own "bio-mass".

Fit that into whatever personal agenda you like!!

This is what "Global Warming", and all the other "popular causes" are really all about!!

......And YES! Narwhal class boats are still the only issue that really matters!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I never really looked at myself as having a personal agenda. I was just adding to a thread. But OK.
I think before we implode upon ourselves.. We might just starve to death first. Sad...

So what is your favorite kind of cheese?

I really like the string cheese with the spices and olive oil. Mmmmm

Sometimes I get frustrated that my tax dollars go to lactose intolerant people that are on welfare and use their food stamps to buy the string cheese, then I Get to the store and they are all sold out!! I mean, you are lactose intolerant and poor, how can this be that you are taking my cheese. I'm really glad that they are going to pardon Mr. limburger for the neighborhood nasal disturbance charge, even if it is amnesty.

it took 4 trys and 3 times my getting pissed off at signature rules and leaving the sh3 forums forever to get it that way.

and back to the dangers of guns i have several times nearly hospitalized myself at the range but the benifits of being able to own ww2 outways the risks in my view. i think im up to 14 world war 2 guns now (not counting my modern ones) includeing a 1919A6 beltfed. i may be purchasing in the near future a MG34 or a PPSH41 and a PPS43 its a eigther or sense the mg34 will cost me $2000

But seriously..give the guy a break. He could take that shot a million times more and it would never come back at him like that. Just unlucky. Im sure that was not his first shot.

You say he was shooting at 100 yrds. a 50 cal with a tracer would punch thru that steel regardless at 100 yards.

I wonder what caliber he was actually shooting. 50cal would have took his ear muffs and ears off completely.

07-05-2007, 06:31 PM
Hi Tiger.... I think it was a piece of the projectile that came back at him. Your right though.... Its a 1 in a million thing. I gave him the benefit of the doubt it was a 50cal and that is why I said it was a very low grain bullet that shattered on the iron plate on impact.
