Please find enclosed a SBD-5 skin which I have painted to represent SBD-1 of USMC VMB-1 QUANTICO........ To be honest I do not really
know a lot about this scheme, but looking at it i thought it was crying out to being skinned for IL2 Pacific Fighters.. Sadly this was probably the end
of the colourful schemes that were applied to Military Aircraft.
With America's entry into the war these schemes were rapidly covered in shades of drab. I felt this really looked the part of the Pre war cruises
undertaken by the US Airpower so decided to Indulge myself and yourselves by doing it...
This will be the first skin I have uploaded onto Servals Excellent Skinners Heaven and I hope you will all support him in this fanastic site, especially
in light of the ones that have gone of late.

Enjoy
TonyT

Beautiful skins TT http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I just thought that it was such a contrary, seeing US warplanes painted in dull colors while many - if not most - Japanese combat a/c have a more colorful schemes...

...hey, maybe that's why they lost the war? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

These pre-war schemes were crazy and battle-impractical (after all, thay cannot be considered "camouflage", can they? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ), but they were soooo beautiful... Lovely skin, thanks!

I quote from this site http://www.carrierbuilders.net/articles/20050427_Transi...rom_Peace_to_War.htm (http://www.carrierbuilders.net/articles/20050427_Transition_from_Peace_to_War/20050427_Transition_from_Peace_to_War.htm)

Douglas SBD-2 (BuNo 2106) [VB-2, €œ2-B-2€]

I first read about the recovery of this airplane from Lake Michigan several years ago, and have had the opportunity to see it in the Pensacola Museum. Surely it is the only surviving Golden Wings airplane with the original orange-yellow paint sprayed on 63 years ago. The €"2 finally met the 200 mile requirement; in 1955 terms it was €˜heavy attack.€ Delivered on December 28, 1940 at the Douglas El Segundo plant, 2106 was accepted by the navy the same day and ferried to NAS North Island. There it was assigned to VB-2 in whose colors it had been painted during construction. 2106 would remain with VB-2 and Lexington for over a year. The vestiges of the original Orange-Yellow wing, the Lemon Yellow tail, and the first rendition of €œ2106€ are visible in these photos.
