What is a good AGP video card that I can get at a reasonable price? Right now I am running a lowly GF FX 5600 with 256 vram.
My pc is a P4 3000 with 1 gig DDR Ram, running XP Home.
We are talking New Zealand dollars here, and they don't go far ...

Heh, no doubt eh BobV?
Just did a quick check on those cards. Over here in NZ the ATI ones seem a fair bit cheaper than the GeForce ones. Mostly on the 128 meg two.
The two 256 ones are pretty much the same cost.
Hmm, hard to decide which one I need to beg my wife to buy for me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

From what I understand you realy dont need a video card with 256 MB RAM. 128 is plenty. In MY opinion I would go with the NV 6600 or even better the 6800GT.

I was getting close to pulling the trigger on a new system with an ATI 9800XT 8x AGP. Then upon researching further I realized that PCI express graphics are far and away the better choice. I'll be debating what F'n system to construct/have constructed long after SHIII is released. The only positive aspect of sitting on the sidelines for a while will be watching the "work the bugs out" threads and making a better decision on the hardware I choose. (I genuinely hope that they are few and far between for everyones sake considering how patient everybody here has been!). Good Hunting!

Yes, I agree 100% I have a 5900 XT and am willing to wait until the new cards drop in price and most if not all bugs are worked out. I'm thinking about getting two 6800GT PCIE 16X cards with the AMD Athlon 64 FX-55, 1MB L2 Cache, 64-bit Socket 939 and at least 1 gig of the best RAM I can buy.

I'm gonna wait for the dual cores.

SLI doesn't have me convinced one **** bit and PCI-E isn't "mature" enough yet, IMO.

I'm gonna wait another 6-9 months and see what's going on.

Oh ya, not gonna be buying anything before SH3 comes out. I just think my vid card is my weakest link and will be the first thing to upgrade. As far as PCI, I know I have an AGP in there now, so doesn't that mean no PCIx slot?

Yeah, no PCIx slot.

Your video card is bottlenecking your system. I would still try it with the game first though. It may run at the settings you like just fine, hence saving you some money! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But I wouldn't expect to crank up FSAA and AF.

If i remember right,I believe if you want a PCI express card you need a PCI express compatible MoBo also.
