For those that remember this campy cartoon series when it first came out and those younguns that know it from it's syndication and run on MTV. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Here he comes here comes Speed Racer.
He's the demon on wheels...
he's the demon and he's gonna be
chasin after someone....
He's gainin on you so you better look alive!!
He's busy revvin up
his powerful
MARK FIVE!!
..and when the odds are against him and there's
dangerous work to do
you bet your life Speed Racer
will see it through!
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer Go!!
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer
Go Speed Racer Go!!

I still sing that song....

I used to rush hime to watch that, Gigantorhttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ESCXZ45RL._SS500_.jpg (which was originally a Japanese cartoon Testsujin - 28 which I discovered at Blovkbuster.. needless to say I was floored. Back then the main character's name was not Jimmy Sparks.) ... and http://home.alphalink.com.au/~roglen/ToborB363.gif Tobor (robot spelled backwards).. the 8th Man!!

(Along with Captain Jack, Diver Dan, Officer Joe Bolton-and the 3 Stooges.. ahhh those were the days... Back when kids could be... kids... When I look at the world we live in and I say my prayers along with giving thanks for still having both my parents, my health, my dashing good looks...(Ok... thats subjective I'll grant you that... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif ), I am so gratefull that I had a childhood because so many kids today just don't get one... the real world is thrust upon them quick fast and in a hurry.... and it is sad really.

Ah yes, good memories indeed. Gigantor and Marine Boy were two of my favorites after Speed Racer. I also used to love The Wacky Races.

I even remember running home after school to watch one of my favorite non-cartoon shows, Dark Shadows...albeit with my hands over my eyes, as I peeked out now and then, scared to death! LOL! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Wow!!!!! I remember almost ALL of these.
Speed Racer was mandatory watching with Uncle Dale Dorman hosting the afternoon cartoons. Every afternnon at 3:00 my friend and I sat with TV trays on our lap eating junk food and watching Racer X and Speed. Then we went out and played ARMY.

Johnny Quest was a favorite. I hated the remake of the 80's 90's. I think because the 60s version was originally prime time it was written for an older audience. (Why no movie remake of Johnny Quest?)

Anyone remember Captain Phantom? He was on early Sat mornings. It's mostly a vague memory, but he was a cartoon sub commander. The animatons were stills with the lips moving. Kinda like you see now on the Conan O'Brien Show.

Tobar the 8th Man, I only got to see in Pennsylvania when we visited my grang parents.

If Christina Ricci was younger I could see her playing Trixie. Sho'e playing Spridle? The kid from 2.5 Men?

Or something to that affect, the years have dulled my memory.

I can see that this is not a thread for noobs.

My earliest (TV) memories are watching Mighty Mouse, Super Car, and Fireball XL5.

I still remember the voice of the female marionette as she called out to Xeno (did I get that right?), the spaceship mascot. And still remember parts of the Fireball XL5 theme song.

Flinstones, Warner Brothers Cartoons, 3 Stooges, Abbot & Costello. Reruns of the old Flash Gordon Serials and Buck Rodgers serials. Commander Cody, and reruns of Superman. Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom into Disney into Bonanza, just had to be done.

Dad seeing the Beatles on Sullivan and muttering something about "the end of the world as we knew it". Dad making the march on Washington. My having seen LIVE both John and Robert Kennedy and Malcom X as a kid.

Astroboy, Crusader Rabbit and Rags, Davey and Goliath.. Sunrise Semester, the Farm Report, gawd I am old...

Da Worfster

Oh and lest we forget. Fireball XL5, Thunderbirds, and bonus points for "Sons of Hercules"

Wow, a ton of memories come flooding back reading some of these posts! Worfster has certainly been around the block once or twice like me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

When my oldest was born in 1982, it opened a whole new world of cartoons that him and I used to watch together. He was a big TMNT fan and we both loved the Thundercats, which in my opinion was a well-done cartoon. He-Man was his 2nd favorite.

Silverhawks had it's moments and that one cartoon where the armada of spaceships is trekking across the galaxy...can't remember the name immediately, was interesting.

My youngest, who will be 7 in November, actually loves Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes. I bought several Looney Tunes DVD collections and a T and J DVD and he loves them! His other favorite cartoon is Ed, Edd and Eddy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Han, that photo is wrong on so many levels...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only old fart on the forums. My mom still tells the story of how as a kid, I was so engrossed in an episode of Speed Racer, I didn't notice a water leak from the furnace room flooding the basement around me. Years later, she bought me a Speed Racer picture, to keep me from forgetting.

Japan is largely responsible for my twisted upbringing. I'm only batting about 50% for the shows mentioned so far, but still remember Robotech (or Macross... and yeah, I've got a VF-1 guarding my desk), StarBlazers (Spaceship Yamato), Gigantor, Thunderbirds in addition to Speed.

I'll be interested to see what the Wachowski brothers can do with it. Susan Sarandon as Speed's mom should be interesting, especially if they play it as a 60's period piece. I never really saw her as the "Mrs. Cleaver" type, wearing an apron.

We had an old Zenith "clicker" remote too. Could anybody else get the channels to change by jingling a set of keys?

P.S. Anyone staying up late can catch the "Venture Brothers" on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. It lampoons Jonny Quest pretty well, and even featured Race Bannon in one of the episodes. Its definitely written for an adult audience raised on JQ and the rest of that era's cartoons.

One day the remote was missing and Dad was doing his famous "magic trick" of changing the channels with his keys. I completely forgot about that. Ah, it's good to take a walk down Memory Lane sometimes. It keeps it green. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Funny, reading the name Bat Masterson reminded me of "Bat Fink" which was a kind of parody of "Courageous Cat", which as we all know was a take-off on Batman and Robin.

Now, there's a campy show from the 60's. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The best part of today's technology is that I can find all the wonderful things that I watched as a kid in the early 60's and go to youtube, etc and show them to my daughters rather than have to tell them how great it was.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif I just found some Marine Boy and Gigantor episodes on there yesterday, as this thread got me reminiscing. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I have to admitt, You Tube has been a great asset for memories of my yesteryear. Ever watch COMMERCIALS for toys you had as a kid?
Hot Wheels, Sizzlers, Mr. Machine, Major Matt Mason, Billy Blast Off, Johnny Lightning, Aurora Factory Experimentals.

I've seen the Gigantor cartoons, but only the Japanese versions. Ultraman!

And for Wrestling it was Gorrilla Monsoon!!!!! He was even better in the announcers booth. 'There's PANDAMONIUM in the ring!!!!" Saturday at 12:00 on WMUR NH.

My favorite was Tony Guererro.....though I remember Chief Jay Strong Bow, too.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, who said Memory Lane isn't paved with gold?

One show I've never seen on line was a local Boston kids show called Jaberwocky. It was very earthy crunchy hippy 60/70s stuff, but it had so many people in it who went on to star in movies and TV shows. (Some I recognise by sight, but not by name) Jobeth Williams from Poltergiest fame, and Robert Prosky from Hill Street Blues were two actors in the show.

I'd rather be frozen in carbonite and live eternity with Jabba the Hutt, than to be caught dead with that costume on.

Suddenly Speed Racer isn't so cool. He makes Mr. Rogers seem macho.

Good grief! That costume would get you in trouble real fast from some "Girly Men" Cops me thinks. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

And longest running western Gunsmoke,

Anyone remember Battle of the Planets? This was my favorite along with Star Blazers and RoboTech.

Battle of the Planets. This brings back some memories for me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As long as the Village People cop doesn't pull you over and tell you to "Pop the trunk" you'll be OK.

Another thought, If you do pop the trunk, does Chim Chim jump out? So that Monkeys really would fly out of your Butt? (Not Jadehawks, just anyones) Just a thought.

How about Spin and Marty, The Great Grape Ape, Land of the Lost (with me hiding in the hall 'cause the Sleestac scared me), and that one that was basically the Skipper and Gilligan in space (what was that called?).

For wrestling it had to be the Baron Von Raschke! Goosestepping around the ring just before The Claw! http://www.baronvonraschke.com/

Did anyone besides me ever watch Gigglesnort Hotel? It came on weekdays, real early on channel 10 in Milwaukee.

"Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat."
"A-Gain!?"
"Nothin' up my sleeve... PRESTO! [Rhino head appears] No doubt about it, I gotta get a new hat!"

I should have remembered that since 1) Wassamatta U was pattern (loosely) after my alma mater, the Univeristy of Minnesota, and 2) I've got the collection on seven or eight VHS tapes. They came in handy as an alternative to German or Japanese broadcast TV while overseas, in those dark days before internet video.

Slickstick, you beat me to the Wonderama reference. Like you, the Bozo reference jogged my memory. The New York affiliate must have run them back to back, though I can't remember for sure. "Exercise, exercise, come on everybody, now let's exercise..." kids today could use a little more of that. Could I sound any more like an old codger? "In my day, we exercised while we watched TV, and we LIKED it!"

Jagdgeschwader2, I forgot to include Battle of the Planets in the anime ranks, though it was one of my early favorites, too. I still remember Jason mashing that button to fire "belt-fed" missiles.

erco415, I know the show your talking about with Bob Denver, but can't remember the name, either. [Far Out Space Nuts... the internet is a wonderful thing.]

All that arm waving was tiring as well. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

What was the name of that one cartoon that was like Battlestar Galactica and had the armada of spaceships looking for a home or was it Earth? I forget. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

IIRC, the main ship looked like a flying Carrier. edit: Ah, now I remember...Star Blazers!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
