Three of our squad have had a 109 G6 engine die on us for no apparent reason now.Just flying along and it feels like you get fuel starvation.Anyone else get this?

Hmm post a track or describe the procedure to fail it.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gifI had the same thing happen with the I-16.
I was flying along and I though that the engine had stalled and tried to restart the engine... but it wouldn't restart.
Almost like I had run out of gas... but I had just taken off just before.

You sure you didn't do a negative G bunt?

Has happened werry often fore me with the hurrycan. When you have a negative G the engine stops.
I have to wait a short while and then restart.

I don't believe that's what he's talking about. My fellow Ace, Prefontaine, has told me about something happening in his G10 where his throttle and propeller pitch controls seem to have locked up. 109's had fuel injected engines, there is no reason for them to stop during negative G maneuvers.

Carb engines will starve at neg G.

As for 109's,it shouldnt happen.
I did have my engine die in my G2 once last week offline, for no apparent reason. I just put it down to taking maybe a bit of flak in the engine as I was near the target area, were there any flak bursts around your teamies when their engines died JG52Uther?

I can confirm this, happened to me often.
I use manual pitch all the time in my 109. Fairly regularily if I take a few hits, I lose complete control of the prop pitch. Nothing you can do except find somewhere to land before you fry the sucker, hehe. This must be part of the damage model. I first noticed it just before PF i believe, on one of the last AEP patches. Not exactly sure of the time frame but I made a post here about it.

Maybe you switched MW50 above 100% Throttle on and off. This kills the engine.

Not me at least. I'm an old hand with the 109's, thats suicide hehe.

No just flying along ,no flak or messing around with MW50 with auto pitch, and i know it should not happen as its fuel injected. This happened online ,in an online war, just as the enemy turned up.Paranoia is creeping in.

back in the original IL2 days it was commonly claimed you needed to let engines get to 40C before takin goff or risk engine damage but I never saw that confirmed and it certianly has not come up recently as an issue

on a slightly side issue .. some carb engines, particularly early merlins, FLOOD under negative G rather than suffer starvation though the effect for the pilot is identical

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Xnomad... I fly the Hurricane, Fiat 42/50, J8A and etc... quite alot and know about the negative G.
No... this just died out on me. And won't start afterwards and at the time I was thinking if this was some problem or bug.

when i fly the 109's with the methenol boost, my engine seems to die out after engaging this option, does this happen to anyone else or am i doing something wrong?

Random engine failures used to be in but were taken out as people complained they were a bug.

You probably got one where the engine was built by slave labour http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
