In IL2 torpedo bombing is quite easy since there are no speed or height limitations. Will this be changed?

I don't know much about this but I assume there had to be severe restrictions in reality: To high speed destroys the torpedo on impact with sea, and to much height makes aming impossible. Also I would assume more innacuracy in aming in real life even if torpedos are dropped almost at sea level.

Finally, AI likes to drop torpedos at several 100 meters height. Should probably be more like 10 meters?

This must be important to a pacific scenario where torpedo bombing is an important ingredient. (At Stalingrad it didn't really matter...)

Not even CLOSE.

For one, you can use them as iron bombs.

Ridiculous.

For two, there are NONE of the usual parameters for launch that made torpedo bombing so difficult and so dangerous.

Standard procedure for most airborne torp launches was no more than 150 - 200 feet alt, 200 knot speed and a stable, steady, level bank.

Any higher, the torp dives into the mud at the bottom. Any faster, it gets damaged when it hits the water.

All of this is *ignored* in IL-2, so torp launches can be done at high speed, like a divebomb run.

Best to ignore that facet of combat totally in this sim.

I look forward to the TBM Avenger probably the most. As a former ASW guy I really cross my fingers for an accurate as possible evelope for these torps.

I heard that PF will have this modelled properly... finally! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The Devastator itself was one hell of a piece of **** of a flying coffin. Therefore, 1 piece of **** (Briss-Leavitt Torpedo) + one other major piece of **** (Devastator) = a whole lot of cr@p!

LoL....
