Anybody here have the game Stalker? If you haven't heard of it go over to http://www.stalker-game.com and check it out. It's a great game, very immersive and pretty freaky at times http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Nice graphics, interesting gameplay and it runs even on older machines. I like it although it has some drawbacks (The long running times for example).

It is essentially like half-life but far more intresting. Don't expect something like Oblivion altough they keep on insisting it is also an RPG.

I love it, thought it can be a bit clunky at times and it could REALLY use optimization, it should run better than it does.

Very well written and the art is amazing!

I finished it last night.

It's not perfect, but it's pretty good. I wish the game locales were more realistic in terms of location and size. I expected the player to be able to roam freely throughout the zone, but instead there are a few distinct paths leading in and out of each area. In fact, the game becomes rather linear near the end, which was really disappointing. The money system could use some work too: I probably earned something like 500000 ru throughout the game, but you cant really spend more than 100000 unless you really tried. I always happened upon the most valuable items well before I ran into someone who was selling them.

Great game. I thinks it pretty original and cleverly done.

LOL, in the Area called "wild territory" there's a dead scientist. His PDA (Gordon's PDA) mentions black mesa. So we don't need more Episodes of HL2 as we now know the end of the story http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be a bit (well a lot) more open ended. I read a couple days ago that in 2005 or 2006, an American publisher guy went over to GSC to speed up its release. In doing so he took out vehicles, sleeping and a greater dependence on eating. Wasn't happy about that.

It's fun going postal in the Bar area, did it last night http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hat. for some reasons the waredens, watchers, want to kill me. No idea why, but I have to eliminate all of them in the bar area. That aside, one of the best games iI have played in a while.

I loved this game, I was really upset when I finished it, as it was the best game I hve played in a looong time.

Its bascially a free world to explore, doing jobs for people and getting good weapons etc. SOme great ideas.

Its nothing like HL2 really, HL2 is a totally linear scripted FPS. YOu follow a set path. STALKER is a more freeform, more realistic game (in the way you play) Its much more like Dues Ex 1.

It has bugs, but I dont mind the bugs when a game is pushing the boundaries like STALKER. It must be impossible to beta test everything in such a game world.

If oyu like progressive games, and dont like ot be hand-held down a path in games, then get STALKER. The end is a bit linear, you follow a path in the last 2 levels, like HL2, but still good.

If you like :-

Dues Ex 1
Opflashpoint
Boiling POint (admittedly buggy, but I still liked it for what it was trying to do, so ambitious)
GTA3
HL2
COunterstrike

You should love STALKER.

If you like free form RPGs you must must must must must play Elder Scrolls Oblivion (you'll need a good rig though) one of the best RPGs to come in years, absolute delight, huge world http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Have it. Not bad, but far from its precedessor Morrowind. Matter of taste, I suppose.

Yeah, it IS an amazing game, Oblivion, but it feels a bit like a watered down Morrowind.

Rather than making it 'deeper' they made it 'shallower' and more accessible. I guess for console sales. Grrrr.

Runs really really well on lower end systems if you turn off dynamic lights and play 1024x768.

You can leave everything else at default.

I'm not sure how or why, but I can run it at 25-35 fps in full dynamic lighting mode with everything except the texture resolution turned up to max on my old computer. Athlon XP 2200+ and GeForce 6600 GT.

The secret is the texture size. There are a LOT of textures in the game, and every single one of them is 1024x1024. If you have a 128 Mb card, you have to set the texture detail slider to the middle (texture_lod 2 in user.ltx). You can't max it out unless you have at least a 512 Mb card.
