After a long delay due to slow processing of an airworthiness certificate application, my new toy had its maiden takeoff in Australia on 29/3. Check out the short takeoff roll here:

If you have good speakers, the engine sounds great.

It's a Vedeneyev M-14P supercharged radial. Nine cylinders, 10 litres capacity, 360 hp.

It sure does look like one. The co-designer of the Yak-50 was Sergei Yakovlev - son of Alexander Yakovlev; who designed the Yak series fighters.

Son of a gun, that's nice!
You can probably imagine what guns and armor would do to your takeoff roll though...

Make some more vids and send to Oleg. If he gets a bug then who knows but some day there may
an SOW model of it? With 3rd party and all it is possible, how many of those are flying?

A pretty good census of Yak-50s around the world is here: http://www.yakkes.com/Yak-50-index.php

Guns & armour would definitely turn the bird into a bit of a turkey. Probably double the takeoff run from 100m to 200m.

Bird was at Wedderburn, NSW until today. Moved it to Camden for flight testing. It'll eventually live at Bankstown.
