I spoke to him several years ago, when he was still flying. He is a really neat man and I am glad I had the opportunity to meet him.

I saw him in 87' in in Reno. He was flying the pace plane for the unlimiteds. After he started the race, he landed and taxied into a pick-up. Shedded the hell out out of the truck, it looked like all it did to his P-51 was mangled the props and minor nose damage (if i remember right). I guess it really is hard to see where youre' going taxing those things!

Was the pickup illegally parked? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
The FAA finally did take his pilot's license. I cannot remember how many years ago that was now. Maybe taxiing wasn't his "thing" near the end of his flying career, but up in the air he was quite something to watch.

Actually the FAA took his medical not his license... Amazing pilot and I got to see him perform in his Shrike many many times...
