Took the camera to the expo, wanting to catch some new footage but was left feeling that I hadn't seen anything new (well there was something that I hadn't seen before). So I ended up not taking any shots.

The set-up was as follows; 2 machines showing replays of saved tracks. So there was no chance to get hands on with PF which is what I had hoped for.

One saved track was of a seafire taking off from what looked like the HMS Illustrious. The aircraft would take off and then do some fly-bys of the carrier and then come into land. Was nice to see it in action after all of the updates, but to be honest, the updates could have been taken from this track (I'm not saying that they were but you got the feeling of "I've seen this already") Two points of interest for me was; the canopy was shown opening and closing (in one fluid movement), and the sense of speed when coming into land on the deck (the deck landing was shown from within the cockpit). I saw no LSO or window showing the LSO. But as some you may have already seen from others posts that there is a LSO (just not in this version of what I saw).

Saw a track of the A6M2-N in the water next to a sub, then doing a take off in the water. Looked great but you can get the idea of how it looked by checking out the dev updates

~~> http://www.il2sturmovik-fr.com/the_game/screenshots/DU_16-07-04/A6M2-N_3.jpg

But one thing that I did see which I though was interesting, was the Kamikaze attack on a cargo ship. Think it was a zero which was attacking, but anyway, the one hit was enough to sink the ship (this was no glancing blow, it was a diving attack that hit the ship mid deck).

The avenger was only as AI, however I was told that it will be flyable.

Menus - Well I was really interested in this, as I felt that this was something that would be good to update. I only got to see the "select track" menu and it was pretty much the same as the one we have now, except it was a greenish colour. The same switches were shown. This could be subject to change of course.

Overall though, I can?t wait to play this. All comments are made about a beta version, so who knows what will change.

Thanks to III/JG11 Ivank for the chat about the game and his efforts in bringing PF to the Expo.

Clouds man the clouds.

See any difference in clouds and sky colour?

I was hoping Luthier would make whole new cloud types but it seems the small FB clouds just got a make up job. Oh well. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Maybe for BoB.

New water textures I normally make fun about, but not if we get Flyable water planes. Can't wait for this now.

See those white smudges at the bottom of this pic? Those are FB clouds. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif (actually, the tiny smudges are about 3x the size of FB clouds)

I am looking at those big boys on the horizon.

The clouds did not look any different from what I have seen in FB so far. You just reminded me of something that I did not pay any attention to, and that was the sight distance!!! I'm interested in this as it will be important in PF.

Another thing, I saw the Corsair firing off the Tiny Tim rockets on a shipping strike. They drop and then fire just as they should (or am I just thinking that I saw that because I want it that way? no I'm sure it was drop and fire). Anyway, the person who made the shot was dam good as they got a direct hit from a long shot (this was no ship filling your sight shot).

Those are clouds you definitely wouldn't want to get near with a WWII aircraft. And most suredly not attempt to fly into. Even modern day Jets steer clear of them as the turbulance inside them are ferociously distructive. And then there's the Hail stones flying all around.

Yes! Exactly what pilots did in WWII.

Exactly what we need to do. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

But to go around them, one must see them in the distance, like the pics, no?

AI needs some work though, but then FB clouds are forever fixed in place to the maps so AI might could be programmed to avoid such large clouds (think Japanese Hiryu carrier hiding under these super clouds off Midway Island, surviving for just one more Strike http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ).

Maybe for BoB.

Now we are beginning to talk about historical air warfare flight simming. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

mmm interesting -- those pics were taken from...an airplane http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

...from a good distance, but then you don't want to fly too close to your bomb blasts either, or fly too close while shooting a Pe~8 carrying the 5Mg bomb, or fly too close while shooting the V~1 flying bomb.

We already have turbulence in FB clouds, and the turbulence could be ramped up inside the large clouds and possibly be modded with the DM inside the large clouds. That is a good reason not to fly into these clouds, or even near them.

Lexx, sad as it is, Pacific Fighters is not about improving on the IL-2/FB weather model. Yes there are some improvements of the environment as you know, but it's about updating maps and making new objects, not reworking the whole weather engine.

It's something that we'll have to keep looking forward to in the "sim of the future." But considering how rapidly games have developed in the past years, I'm quite happy with what we are getting, and glad that there is room for improvement. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Yes, maybe for BoB we will see new advances in air warfare simulation.

I agree michapma, what we have is a great sim and I'm happy with it (lets face it, there are always going to be things that you dont like or would like changed/addedd).

BoB will up the sim market another notch.

Good point michapma. Its not as if this is the last flight sim to made by human hands.
Perhaps we forget this somtimes.
