Over the time I have developed a habit of using the highest zoom (max FoV) when I aim on target.
In normal dogfight I never use max FoV because hard manouvering aircraft will often dissapear from your screen.

To answer your question FoV enhance the playability a lot, since you can hit enemy aircraft hard from distance (you see them better).

For sure, FOV is the shinizzle!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I zoom out for take offs and taxiing. It gives me a better view of the edge of the runway or taxiway. I zoom back in about 2-3 clicks after takeoff for flight and dogfighting for the most part.

I zoom in closer for head on attacks and I zoom in to maximum once in a while to find ground targets.

Zoom out for normal flight ops and when I'm trying to get a bearing on my navigation. Then I use standard zoom for most of combat and zoom in when i'm trying to aim.

The human eye has both a very good field of view as well as a very good focusing ability. While your eye can do all of these functions at the same time (thanks in part to the image processing abilities of your brain) you need to manipulate these controls in the simulation to give you a piece of what real WWII pilots had.

I press toggle FOV and center view on average every 4-5 sec. I use hatswitch enhanced with newview. I don't know what I'd do if I had TrackIR.

I have TIR3, and I use the Toggle FOV command constantly. While I do most of my flying in 'Wide View', even some guages on the instrument panel are illegible unless I go to 'Gunsight View' (hey, I'm old--my eyes aren't what they should be), so even looking around in my cockpit, I need to change magnification.

I've assigned it to a joystick button I can press instantly, and I recommend the practice to any & all.

cheers

I usually have my FoV zoomed right out as my 'search' view. On some fighters I continually toggle between 'gunsight' and 'normal' views, to stop the cockpit bars creating too many blindspots. When your in gunsight view, you also have a better view to your six.

For easy shots that require little maneuvering I'll shoot from the highest magnification. On a dogfighting target, I'll shoot from the middle magnification.

I have m,y FOV set as incremental in and out on my X-45.... coup[le that with TIR and it is nice. I can now read all the gauges by simply looking at them and zooming in.

Please be careful to distinguish between Gunsight View (aka Zoom View) which is default Del key and Toggle Gunsight which is default Shift-F1. The former is a zoom control while the latter is a pilot posture control (moves your head but doesn't change FOV).

I've got 'toggle FOV' and 'toggle gunsight' on buttons 3 and 4 of my Saitek evo. They must be the most used commands in the whole game.

I have them in the two shift buttons of my Evo. And yes they are by far the most used in the game.

I have Zoom View (aka Gunsight View), Normal View, Wide View and Toggle Gunsight all on the mouse ministick of my X-52 (plus a couple of others, got to love modes and shift keys http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif)
