It occured to me today that I don't recall ever seeing a photo of a downed Italian aircraft from their one raid during the BOB. Indeed are there any? What aircraft did they use?

G-50, CR-42, BR-20 and some Cant-1007. BoB has been a total disaster for the italians, and also a strong lesson.

There is a CR42 biplane at the RAF museum at Hendon in London. It came down on a beach with engine problems during the BoB.

Unfortunatly for the Italians, Mussolini bought himself an airforce a couple of years too early (1935 I beleive?). Had he waited a few years Italy would surely have performed so much better.

The planes the brave men of RGA were sent out to face modern fighters in their biplanes and slow bombers were modern fighters by comparison.

Italy performed much better once she got her high performance Regainne and MAcchi fighters.
