I've been reading about Ki-61 tony and it seems to have been a pretty good aircraft, often described as a mid-way between the zero and 109 flight characteristics. In PF at the mo, the Ki61 just seems to be no good,

I know it was porked a little and will be fixed in patch, but was this aircraft really as good as it has been described? surely it can't have been porked that bad? The stuff I have seen on performance seem to indicate a nice bird to fly, not exactly great, but certainly better performing than in PF now http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Did you get the 3.01 patch? The Ki-61 is now quite good. Its not a super plane and its still a bit on the slow side but it has a good dive, decent firepower, and good manuverability all around. It retains some of its high speed manuverability too...quite a decent plane in that respect.

Don't expect too much from it in 1943. The Ki-61 is powered by a copy of a 1940 German engine.

and if you campare it to what the Japanese Army Airforce flew also 1943 , Ki-43-II and Ki-44 , it was very good !

if it came in the air http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif it was a maintenance nightmare for the japanese forces, espacially at NewGuinea

STILL, it does quite well. It was one of the few Army Fighters that had any armor protection, decent firepower, and dive abilities that mirrored their American opponents. Those were all important variables in combat during that period in particular. So I think it does quite well. I can score some kills in later war dogfight free for alls so its not too bad.

The Ki-61 is very nice now, definite upgrade. It had a very fluid mode of flight. The plane is very gentle and does beautiful aerobatics. The plane is slow compared to Corsairs and Hellcats but it will dive with them and it has very respectible high speed handling. I haven't gotten used to the Japanese armament yet (poor muzzle velocity when compared to German weapons, the shells drop really fast) so I'm not really thrilled with its hitting power but I guess it gets the job done. I think its a really well balanced plane that has a nice realistic feel to it.

I've flown it a few times and I must admit I really don't like it, its way to slow, the acceleration is terrible but the view is good and its manouverable and carries allot of ammo but I was glad to be out of it once landed. I did feel allot safer in it than a zero however.

I really like it a lot better than the prepatch version at least (and who wouldnt?). But i like the Oscar better though. But thats just me. Its still a cool plane http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
