just a point in one of the screen shots featuring dive bombers on battleship row, the attacking aircraft have been misnamed, they are not as is stated a6m zeros but are clearly Aichi Val divebombers recognisable by their fixed landing gear. sorry for the gripe http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

great shots by the way

No AAA firing at the Kate dropping a torpedo. Are we getting a switch to turn off AAA on ships or are these static objects that don't fire? Nice either way.

Look for my IL-2T torpedo bomber campaign coming very soon. Its in final test. You'll like it.

Lovely pictures. Two problems I see though.

First off the Kate dropping the torpedo. Its far to high. Looks like 100 - 150 m or so. Pearl Harbor is very shallow, something like 23 ft. At the height and the angle of the torpedo in the picture it would plow into the bottom even with the modifications of wooden fins to the longlance torpedo.

Second is with the increase in the number of ships involved in a fight or scenario, the smoke from their return fire seems the same as before. It really sucks up frame rate in a game. Its going to be very difficult to fly near ships firing in any form. We will all be playing in low res just have a chance of attacking one or flying CAP.

Wow! Now THAT's an update! We are so spoiled! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

It does look like that Kate's dropping her fish from a rather high altitude, though. One of the things that made me enjoy torpedo bombing in AOTP so much was that it was so bloody difficult, so I really hope that the parameters are tightened up, as Elem points out.

Fantastic stuff, nonetheless. Thanks!

Both those ships had triple gun A & B turrets. The one in the screeny has a smaller twin gun B turret. Still haven't been able to identify it myself. Would be nice if someone at Ubi told us.

The shape of the ships, from both the side and the top and the turret placements, smoke stacks and 16 5.25inch guns look very much in the right places for a KGV class ship. All of the KGV class battleships were used in the Pacific so its not out of place.

Check out this model from the link posted in the forums the others day of HMS KGV:

Sure looks like Pearl Harbor from what I can tell.

Those sure look like the Waianae mountians in the background - even down to the flat topped Mount Kaala. WOW. Great work on making an island look like Oahu.

As for the ships, I'm clueless, but I can't wait to buzz my (virtual) house !

Awesome update. Does look a lot like a KGV at Pearl.

And this...

is clearly the result of an attack by .50's http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

It's wierd cause you see .50's doing that on gun cams. Real life must be over modled. I hope ships don't sink in 20sec on this game. Real ships took hours some times to sink.

Having spent three fun years at Pearl Harbor as a guest of the US Navy, I can confirm that that definitely looks like the attack on Pearl. The Wianaes (sp) are in the right location in relation to Ford Island and the battleship moorings of 1941.

I can hardly wait.

Ohkas didn't carry rockets. It was the rocket itself...

You're mistaking it for German Bachem Natter, a similar aircraft, made also in despair, but with a different purpose.

If this was the first wave of Kate's, there wasn't much in the way of AAA. It was a surprise attack and according to all accounts, the flak didn't start flying for a while. Ammo was locked up, secured from station and it was Sunday morning. Remember.

Er...without starting a flame war, this isn't actual footage of the attack.

The dude was asking if flak could be turned on or off in the game. Which, as you point out, is very relevant to the early stages of the Pearl Habor attack.

In fact, while we're at it. The devastating dive bombing attack on the Japanese carriers was so successful, partly, because Japanese AAA was busy with a low level attack and didn't spot the dive-bombers until it was too late. Wouldn't it be nice to have distracted AAA directorsas a feature of the game?
